General Purpose of this Position:
As a Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing the flow of technical information between our team, customers, subcontractors, and vendors. Your primary responsibility will be to verify contract scopes, drawings, specs, and addendums for accuracy while working closely with the Project Manager to ensure the smooth progress of steel fabrication at the shop and the on-field erection of steel structures.
Responsibilities:
•Review design drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness, coordinating with customers, design team, detailing, shop, and field to resolve discrepancies and missing information.
•Coordinate project sequencing and basic detailing job setup, including advance bills, shop and erection drawings.
•Provide technical instructions and guidance to steel detailers in preparing shop drawings per project requirements and standards.
•Monitor project schedules for submittals, approvals, and shop fabrication releases, identifying and communicating possible delays or issues to the project management team.
•Organize detailing Request for Information (RFI) process, collaborating with engineers, architects, and general contractors.
•Distribute and route drawings, working closely with Document Control to avoid delays and maintain accurate logs.
•Act as a liaison between the shop, field, and detailers to resolve fabrication and erection difficulties.
•Maintain regular communication with Project Managers on the progress of assigned responsibilities.
•Provide valuable assistance to the Project Management team in achieving successful project outcomes.
•Participate in coordination meetings online, at fabrication facilities and job sites.
•Coordinate the detailing efforts of various subcontractors.
•Serve as a direct link between Detailers, Project Managers, other production departments, customers, other contractors, and Design Team as required.
•Utilize knowledge of MS Office, Bluebeam, Tekla, and Tekla EPM software packages to streamline project processes.
•Project Management Support as needed
Designer/Pre-Construction:
+ - + Lead turnover effort from estimating/sales
+ Develop and applicable value engineering and other cost and schedule reductions.
+ Ensure proper job set up and contract details match estimate.
+ Ensure client contract negotiated and executed.
Project Execution:
+ - + Identify required vendors, develop purchase orders and change orders in compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Manage quality and timely delivery.
+ Identify subcontractors (if applicable), issue subcontracts, review invoices and change order requests, and manage. Require appropriate period progress reports.
+ Track and maintain key contract performance dates/notices.
+ Maintain electronic project files and appropriate hard copy files. Ensure efficient organization of project folder on company server.
Communication:
+ - + Maintain constant and consistent dialogue with the client to ensure that all client needs are being met.
+ Plan and lead internal kickoff meetings that may include representatives from sister SubCos within Junction Industries
+ Report weekly to Harbor Fab President and clients on project status
Project Costs:
+ - + Monitor project costs against budget
+ Perform the final review of internal items including, but not limited to, Weekly Estimate Vs Actual Report, Project Cost calculations, WIP, Open PO Reports, ETV
+ Ensure that all POs, Subcontracts, Change Orders, Bills, Shipping Tickets, and Credit Card receipts are expeditiously provided to the accounting department in accordance with corporate policies
+ Develop of Schedule of Values for customer progress invoicing to ensure positive cash flow for project.
•Estimating Support as needed
+ - * + Manages the tracking and issuance of drawings (design, shop and erection) from detailer, internal review, submittal to/from approval, to final issuance for fab/construction to all appropriate parties.
+ Tracks documents and updates company project list
+ Review to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists
+ Computes cost factors and prepares estimates for management review such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
+ Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
+ Prepare and review structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication estimates, plate fabrication, (tanks, hoppers, chutes, ductwork), and specialty items such as dredge pontoons, cranes, log kickers from start to finish.
+ Perform value engineering, takeoffs, proposals, and schedule of values
+ Verify status of quotes and keep up with market and other trends to enable competitiveness.
