Professional Engineer
Description
We are seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) with expertise in designing and generating construction documents for mid- to large-scale solar PV and BESS power systems, who wants to work as a team player within our progressive firm. The ideal candidate will be a NABCEP-certified PE with lengthy experience working on PV systems ranging from 100kW to 5 MW in the public and private sectors. This position is based out of Warwick, NY.

Location
This position is based out of Warwick, NY headquarters, with a flexible, hybrid work schedule of 50% remote-home-office and 50% travel. Regularly required project travel will be mostly in the northeast region, but at times may be beyond this region. The company covers the cost of company travel. Candidates must be based out of NY, NJ, or CT, but preferrable in the NYC metropolitan area.

- $100,000-$130,000 Salary range

Responsibilities
•Design and engineer mid- to large-scale solar PV and BESS power systems ranging from 100kW to 5 MW.
•Apply industry-standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria while using personal judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
•Expertly handle all complex power systems matters of projects from sales origination and bid set design through project startup and commissioning.
•Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of utility coordination, including single-line and three-line drawings, plan and elevation drawings, general arrangement and site layout, relay protection and control requirements, and grounding systems.
•Supporting equipment sourcing efforts, value engineering, planning & tracking project design reviews, quality control/quality assurance, and contractor management.
•Develop specifications, collect data, and complete utility interconnection applications and building permit applications.
•Provide oversight and reviews of deliverables in the proposal/bid phase, including conceptual design engineering and BOM, preparing proposal technical specifications, developing assumptions, clarifications, and exceptions, and sourcing for vendor quotations.
•Manage deliverables for all electrical designs for projects through a combination of internal and external designers and engineering consultants.
•Provide technical signoff of all internal design drawings, 3rd party engineering, vendor shop drawings, bill of materials, installation methods, inspections, punch lists, and commissioning documents.
•Develop construction documents using AutoCAD.
•Coordinate activities between clients, utilities, permit agencies, contractors, and other engineering firms.
•Develop detailed equipment specifications.
•Coordinate with operations team members for construction administration and final commissioning.
•Create and maintain design tools, design standards, specifications, and best practices for electrical system design.
•Perform arc flash and short circuit analysis.
•Oversee design submittal and equipment approval for all interconnections.
•Provide technical mentorship through written and oral communication to other members of the company.
•Perform site assessment and analysis from on-site data collection and network tools.
•Produce site-specific production analysis of PV arrays using models such as PVsyst.
•Contribute to or write technical papers.
•Survey roofs using total stations and other professional land surveying equipment.
•Integrate energy storage systems into the solar PV system.
•Work well in close collaboration with sales and operations team members to exceed customer expectations.
•Travel to project sites from time to time to gather site-specific data, as required.
•Attend monthly in-person “all hands” meetings in Warwick, NY.
•Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
•Professional Engineer license in Electrical Engineering.
•BS in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline.
•Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in a related field.
•Ability to communicate the basis of design and technical design decisions clearly and concisely among construction, technical, and non-technical personnel, both internally and externally.
•Strong understanding of 3-phase power systems, distribution service equipment, and balance of system components for solar PV distributed generation assets.
•Working knowledge of specific requirements for distributed generation or medium voltage interconnections, including effective grounding, protection, controls, fault duty, and other CESIR fields.
•Ability to size and specify a grounding transformer, pole-mounted equipment, MV switchgear, step-up transformers, switchboards, panelboards, inverters, DAS, etc.
•Capable of independently performing power system studies with all SKM modules.
•2+ years’ experience working with AutoCAD with an understanding of layer control, dimensioning and scaling, sheet sets, blocks, Xrefs, line weights, plot files, and file transmission.
•Hands-on experience commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
•Confident in resourcing required information to make independent technical decisions.
•Comfortable carrying the responsibility for all electrical specifications and design standards.
•Willingness to perform value engineering and explore cost savings opportunities.
•Self-starting in a dynamic start-up environment with limited procedural guidance.
•Highly functional with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrids, EV Charging.
•Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
•Prior experience or employment with a Utility, ISO, IPP, or other generation/T&D entity.
•Prior employment experience with a Professional Engineering firm.
•Experience in traditional building design with an MEP firm.
•2+ years’ experience designing mid- to large-scale solar PV systems.
•Familiarity with the National Electrical Code.
•Familiarity with PVsyst, SKM, and ETAP software.
•Hands-on experience installing, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting solar PV systems.
•Experience leading other engineers.
