JOB DETAILS:
•REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
•LOCATION: Lethbridge Production Plant, On-Site
•SUMMARY: The Production Manager leads critical processes and systems for the safe and efficient operation of manufacturing and that products meet established quality, customer service, and safety standards while minimizing losses and working within the framework of the budget to optimize company profitability. They are responsible for the effective management and coordination of all plant production operations including material processing, assembly, material handling, safety, maintenance, training and team building. The Production Manager’s expertise will be critical in maintaining our high standards of productivity and product quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Production & Project Management
•Oversee the production process, generating and maintaining a production schedule. Monitor and adjust the schedule as needed.
•Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.
•Ensure optimum performance & efficiency and that production targets are met or exceeded through coaching, development, training and feedback.
•Monitor product standards and implement quality control programs, ensuring that products are produced on time, are of high quality, and exceed our customer’s expectations.
•Coordinate, set up, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for all production operations.
•Ensure that the facility supports the company’s initiatives. Create and support a culture that builds operates and maintains a plant that is operationally sound, safe and efficient.
•Direct production supervisors & leaders to implement the company's policies and achieve company goals.
•Remain in good standing with suppliers and customers. Ensure the company’s good reputation is maintained in the marketplace, by meeting deadlines and producing high quality products.
•Liaise with all company departments to maintain a healthy environment of teamwork & co-operation.
•Ensure implementation and the continual improvement of safety procedures. Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed.
•Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety culture.
•Ensure that employee concerns are addressed in a timely fashion.
•Conduct regularly scheduled performance reviews of subordinates. Track competencies of production team members and provide leadership and development as required to achieve performance objectives.
•Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with latest production and production management concepts.
•Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans.
Team Management & Training
•Complete day-to-day team management, including the creating of schedules, managing time off requests, timecard approvals, and daily production huddles.
•Oversee a team of production supervisors, team & area leaders, administrators, and purchasers, providing technical leadership and coaching.
•Ensure training is assigned, scheduled and completed for all team members, creating a highly trained cross-functional team (including emergency/ power outage procedures).
•Determine staffing requirements and assist with recruitment of new production staff.
•Evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and coaching; conduct formal evaluations of all direct reports before 3-month probationary periods expire and on an annual basis thereafter.
•Administer disciplinary action in accordance with established policies and procedures.
•Manage employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations coordinating with Senior Management and/or the People Development department.
•Ensure employees adhere to all health and safety regulations.
Processes Compliance & Development
•Evaluate policies and procedures and provide recommendations for changes to improve efficiencies and safety.
•Analyze production operations and identify areas for improvement; provide leadership and project management to implement changes.
•Work closely with the Maintenance and Engineering departments to assist with developing new manufacturing processes and procedures.
•Plan the department’s workload and flow, ensuring strategic goals translate into practical action.
•Lead LEAN initiative and participate in LEAN projects.
•Ensure regulatory compliance and control in all areas.
Budgeting & Cost Control
•Plan and control production budget expenditures.
•Develop, monitor, and report on department KPI’s.
•Prepare and present proposals relating to departmental budgets, resource allocation, new equipment purchases and work processes.
•Establish group and individual accountabilities for cost reduction or problem solving.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business management, or facilities management
•Minimum of 5 Years of prior experience in a manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a managerial role.
•Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to be a leader on the day-to-day level including making decisions and coordinating multiple supervisors or leaders.
•Demonstrates a proven track record of managing production and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, setting priorities, identifying and addressing problems, and meeting deadlines.
•Familiar with LEAN manufacturing processes
•Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
•SAGE experience preferred but not required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
•Excellent English communication skills, in verbal, written, and presentation formats.
•Literacy equivalent to OECD Level 4 or higher.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
•Working predominantly within a ‘normal’ office environment.
•Exposure to the manufacturing environment will be required including exposure to seasonal temperature changes, loud noises, and moving machinery.
•Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when in the manufacturing facility to include but not limited to, safety glasses, steel toe foot protection, hearing protection, and hard hats.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
•Ability to carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs occasionally.
•Sitting/Standing for extended periods
•Periodic climbing (stairs)
•Repetitive use of hands/wrists with light grasping
•Occasional walking/twisting/bending and reaching above and below shoulder.
