The Process Safety Engineer is responsible to enable fit for purpose and efficient advancement of process safety elements, technical competency, and risk management maturity across Canlin Energy Corporation. The Process Safety engineer will champion performance and development and maintenance of process safety management systems and tools within the overarching Canlin safety loss management system. This position represents Canlin to both internal and external process safety stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain all policy, standards, and forms related to Process Safety.
- Lead and guide Canlin Process Safety processes including Management of Change, Risk Register, Process Hazards Analysis, Incident Investigation, Process Safety Information management, etc.
- Promote Process Safety Culture within Canlin.
- Project Management of small expense and capital projects related to Process Safety.
- Build, maintain, and deliver training on Process Safety Elements and Tools.
- Take responsibility for Corporate Process Safety Key Performance Indicator tracking and reporting.
- Advise leadership on solutions to improve Process Safety performance.
- Communicate with and represent Canlin to Regulators on Process Safety related inquires and coordinate external audits.
- Instruct field stakeholders in the application of changes to Process Safety elements or performance solutions.
- Oversee Corporate Operations Integrity Governance activities and provide mentorship to stakeholders.
- Network within industry to understand current regulatory requirements and industry trends, assess their impact and implement changes to Canlin Process Safety systems.
- Provide project management for all corporate and field based major Process Safety activities such as PHA (HAZOP, LOPA).
- Own Process Safety tools including programs software (PHAPro, MOC, Velocity Risk, etc.).
- Other duties and special projects, as assigned.
This position supports operations in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. There will be significant interface with the wider Canlin Energy community particularly in the fields of Process Safety, Operations, Engineering, Asset Integrity, Finance, and Health, Safety and Environment (HSER).
The Process Safety Engineering role will provide oversight on Process Safety elements to both Calgary staff and field leadership across all Canlin Energy locations.
This role is corporately based and will require some field travel.
VP Operations, Operations & Maintenance Managers/Directors, Plant Operations Leaders, Field Operations Leaders, IROC and MRA Leaders, all facets of HSER (Health, Safety, Environment, Regulatory)
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Engineering Degree (Process or Mechanical or Chemical), with a minimum of 8 years related experience in oil and gas operations.
- Professional Engineering in Alberta in good standing (BC P.Eng would be an asset).
- CCPS Professional Certification would be an asset.
- Familiarization with Process Safety Management Standards (CSA Z767 & Z662) and OH&S.
- Understanding of Management of Change, Risk Analysis, and Risk Management.
- Familiarity with development, implementation, and performance monitoring of corporate Process Safety procedures and tools.
- Awareness of the process, operational, and maintenance aspects of upstream operations, equipment, and terminology, including NCR’s and Risk Acceptance.
- Excellent organizational, stakeholder management, presentation, and people engagement skills.
- Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to think differently.
Office environment (typical), travel required to field sites including inspection activities (periodic)
High volume workload and shifting priorities. Expect pressure from corporate and regulatory bodies.
