Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Redwater office is recruiting a Process Controls Engineer to join the team. This position reports to the Facility Engineering Supervisor in the Natural Gas Liquids Business Unit (NBU), part of Pembina’s Facilities Division. Pembina’s Natural Gas Liquids Business Unit (NBU) is involved in the Fractionation, Terminaling & Storage, and Logistics and Distribution of specification natural gas liquids throughout North America. Natural Gas Liquids are components of natural gas classified by weight and number of carbon atoms – Methane (C1), Ethane (C2), Propane (C3) Butane (C4) and Condensate (mixture of C5+). Fractionation involves separating the different products in an NGL mix out into Ethane, Propane and Butane.
The Redwater complex has several fractionators for processing paraffinic and olefinic natural gas liquids. This growing site also includes significant cavern storage assets and cogeneration units. The process control engineer role is critical to supporting the process engineering, project, and maintenance teams ensuring safe and reliable operations.
The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Redwater.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

- Collaborate with engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance and other stakeholders, to provide programming support as well as design input related to the development, improvement and implementation of control strategies and architecture across various control systems (DCS/SIS) utilized at the facility and future projects/plant expansions;
- Maintain and implement elements of basic, intermediate and advanced process control strategies for the facility;
- Coordinate with consultants and contractors to execute design, equipment procurement, construction, and commissioning of site facilities;
- Review and approve engineering deliverables prepared by consultants, contractors, and suppliers;
- Support plant tests, commissioning and startup of new projects/facilities/control loops;
- Evaluate and execute control changes which have a direct impact on daily facility operations;
- Participate in Management of Change (MOC), incident investigations and procedure reviews, as required;
- Provide controls expertise during HAZOPs, LOPAs, risk assessments, and design reviews;
- Establish and maintain documentation standards and information related to controls including control philosophies & narratives, shutdown keys, loop drawings, P&ID’s, and system turnover documentation;
- Implementation and participation in alarm rationalization and reduction of nuisance alarms;
- Maintaining and troubleshooting control system network switches as needed;
- Provide subject matter expertise (SME) to maintenance, operations, engineering, and major projects related to control systems;
- Demonstrate learning agility by actively seeking feedback, adapting to new information quickly, and applying learnings to improve performance and deliver results in a dynamic environment;
- Provide day-to-day technical support and lead complex troubleshooting control systems activities; and
- Participate and support in an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
- - B. Sc., Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with experience in process controls;
- P. Eng with 5+ years of engineering experience at an operating facility;- Related, relevant engineering experience in large industrial facilities, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in refinery, gas plant, or petrochemical environments;
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, including a willingness to mentor and train plant personnel on process control programming topics and experience managing all aspects of process control development;
- Strong working knowledge of control systems (Siemens), Loop Tuning Software, APC servers, historian systems and OPC (Aspen, Pi or similar) is an asset;
- Understanding of Control System infrastructure, including controllers, servers, operator clients, and field devices is an asset;
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently given appropriate guidance, and able to prioritize multiple tasks;
- Strong, effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, or processes and apply them effectively in a fast-paced environment; and
- Self-motivated and adept at prioritizing competing tasks in a dynamic environment, building strong relationships quickly while instilling confidence.
