U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking talent to join our Operational Excellence Team as a Process Engineer. This position will provide support to the Alabama Works manufacturing facility. Primary focus is on developing and standardizing the melting, casting, and pipe processing procedures that ensure quality product and reduce risk to the employee, environment, or customers. Emphasis will be on analyzing and modifying processes to improve quality and throughput. Ability to work with Operations, Quality and Procurement to test new processes and materials that improve efficiency, quality and cost in the ductile iron pipe making process.
- Develops standard work applications and procedures for U.S. Pipe operations around best practices to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Leads the development of U.S. Pipe standard raw material specifications for use in supplier quality assurance and procurement bidding.
- Working with the manufacturing plants’ finished product samples to ensure they meet internal and external specifications.
- Develop programs to eliminate or reduce equipment downtime, costs and scrap losses by leading and guiding teams through Lean events/tools.
- Improving manufacturing plants’ processes to increase quality, performance and profitability.
- Interacting with customers, both internal and external, giving product recommendations, troubleshooting technical issues, and assisting in problem resolution.
- Providing Manufacturing Plant support, including training, time studies, standard work auditing and troubleshooting.
- Interact with and train plant personnel.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Candidates with 5-10 years’ experience in Manufacturing Process Engineering are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in analytical methods and formal problem-solving methodologies is required.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience is a plus.
- Experience with metallurgy, cement chemistry, and adhesives or coatings is a plus.
- Experience with simulation modeling for new and existing processes is a plus.
