Job Summary
The company is seeking a leader for the FLNG Controls Function, this position will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, operation, monitoring and maintenance of control systems in an LNG facility. Focus areas are communication and consensus building with diverse stakeholders to maintain and improve DCS control, compressor control, BMS, and PLC systems. The position is also responsible for instrumented protective systems and advanced control program development.
Location/Travel Information
This position will be based at the Freeport LNG Headquarters in Houston, TX with frequent travel to the Freeport LNG Liquification Facility (Quintana, TX) and Pre-Treatment Facility (Freeport, TX). This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license.
Duties/Responsibilities
•Technical lead for the FLNG Controls Group.
•Design and provide engineering technical expertise and leadership to the operation, maintenance and specification of new control systems.
•Supports control systems and PLC maintenance execution with communication with OEMs, including lifecycle planning of control hardware, software and programming.
•Uses sound engineering practices, plant standards and specifications, ensuring that documentation for the Control Systems are maintained properly.
•Responsible for learning and following documentation standards including updates to the maintenance, reliability and unit operating manuals.
•Supports in the Management of Change process to ensure that risks from controls changes are properly identified and managed.
•Responsible for documentation standards including updates to the maintenance, reliability and unit operating manuals.
•Supports the maintenance and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) with the emphasis on monitoring and analysis for control systems for predictive maintenance to achieve increased efficiency and reduced downtime.
•Provide engineering and technical input during the development and/or revision of controls related standards, procedures, guidelines and plans as required to meet industry standards or regulatory requirements.
•Responsible for analyzing work order repairs and failure data, pulling data for continuous improvement activities, meeting improvement milestones, developing performance trends, and monitoring for improvement.
•Exposure to DCS regulatory control, loop tuning and basic compressor controls hardware and software such as Honeywell Experion, CCC, GE Mark VIe.
•Responsible for conducting RCFA on control equipment failures to eliminate or mitigate consequences.
•Responsible for conducting RCFA on equipment or programming failures to eliminate or mitigate consequences.
•Support Alarm Management program execution
•Understand and interpret codes, standards and regulations that are equipment related.
•Working knowledge of Engineering Codes and Standards related to Instrumented Protective systems such as ANSI/ISA-61511, NFPA, API 670, and others by participating in engineering standards committees.
•Provide controls technical support to development and expansion projects.
•Ability to comprehend design specifications, standards, and contracts.
•Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
•Ability to conduct efficient meetings.
•Ability to develop comprehensive scopes of work.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Minimum Experience: 15+ Years of Controls Engineering Experience
5+ Years of technical leadership
15+ years of experience in an operating oil & gas or chemicals industrial facility
Competencies
•Deep experience with DCS regulatory control, loop tuning and basic compressor controls hardware and software such as Honeywell Experion, CCC, ECT, and GE Mark VIe.
•Familiarity with Fire and Gas systems.
•Experience with all aspects of Safety Instrumented Systems engineering.
•Experience with advanced controls project development and long-term maintenance.
