Requires State of Michigan 3rd Class Engineers License or Equivalent.
Perform and maintain safe and efficient operating conditions of all hot water generator/chilled water plant equipment and monitor the compressed air equipment and the distribution systems. Under indirect and intermittent supervision of a Site Manager and occasional work direction of other Journeyman/Repairmen, operates and provides protection on all plant equipment. Performs operating care and maintenance on plant equipment. Must be able to work independently and with a team.
1. Operates equipment such as steam generators (boilers), turbine pumps and fans, system steam regulating valves, electrical equipment, chillers and cooling towers, air compressors, pumps, and their attendant auxiliaries to maintain loads, voltages, frequencies, pressures, temperatures and flows, etc., as required.
2. Starts stops and/or regulates plant equipment. Diagnoses, compensates, and corrects various operating conditions on equipment through the use of automatic control systems or manual regulation.
3. Reads and interprets operating orders, blueprints, and sketches, etc.
4. Inspects assigned plant equipment for efficiency and safety. Looks for defects in equipment, faulty operating, poor housekeeping, fire hazards, unsafe working conditions, etc., and takes corrective action as necessary. Troubleshoots assigned plant equipment. Recommends and assists in developing changes in operating procedures.
5. Keeps site manager and other team members informed of status of equipment and conditions and prepared repair requests as needed.
6. Plans, coordinates, and performs the lock-out/tag-out operations on plant equipment.
7. Performs independently and/or works with others to perform the operating care and maintenance on power plant equipment such as, cleaning, lubricating, changing oil, brushes, packing valves, pumps, changing water glasses, filters, cleaning burner tips, replaces sections of threaded pipe, valves, fittings, etc.
8. Reads and records data from various plant instrumentation. Maintains files of operating and work orders, lubrication records, etc. Fills out necessary operating records, reports, changes charts, etc.
9. Adjustment and logging of chemical changes, troubleshooting, and pump adjustments in a defined format. Handle corrosive chemicals and wear proper protective equipment. Monitoring of all chemical feed systems. Mixing and dilution of lab chemicals. Extensive jar testing for chemical feed rates.
10. Interact with City of Flint when compliance sampling is being performed. Monitor production fluid shipments and fluid storage tanks. Facilitate lab sampling for compliance. Have knowledge of our legal requirements and permit when discharging to municipality .
11. Performs mechanical maintenance in varying degrees to turbines, steam generators, boilers, auxiliaries, chillers, air compressors, pumps and mobile equipment as needed.
12. Fills out written reports on inspections and repairs made to equipment and verbally reports on faulty or unsafe equipment to the Site Manager.
13. May perform and/or assist in performing electrical maintenance to a variety of plant electrical and distribution equipment 480v or lower by rebuilding, installing, inspecting, adjusting, repairing, testing and/or modifying circuit breakers, relays (as they apply to plant auxiliaries, etc.), motors, power and control wiring, conduit, oil and gas ignition systems, exciters, switchgear, disconnects, general lighting and communications systems, etc..
14. Perform repair and maintenance work on control equipment associated with steam, compressed air, wastewater, and chilled water plant operation. Observe equipment operation to determine the nature of operating problems. Use appropriate test instruments to diagnose and locate the trouble and the reason for malfunction; make needed repairs. Replace, adjust and calibrate components to align control apparatus to required operating specifications.
15. Assists in general electrical repair and maintenance as needed including replacing fuses, light bulbs, motor controls, switches, etc.
16. Assists in running conduit, repair lighting, troubleshoots all electrical systems and controls.
17. Overhauls, inspects, installs, repairs, tests and/or modifies hydraulic systems, bearings, valves, governors, wear blocks, gas and oil ignition systems, safety valves, fans, compressors, pumps, fluid coupling drives; breakers, belts and idlers. Internal combustion engines (gasoline and diesel fuel), torque converters, transmissions, fuel injectors, brakes, hydraulic systems, etc.
18. Performs pipe and valve repairs to plant and distribution systems by removing, cutting, fitting, installing, checking, laying out, bending and/or modifying pipelines and tubing; carrying water, steam, air, natural gas, oil, hydrogen, nitrogen, chemicals, acids, sewage, lubricants, gasoline and diesel fuels. Occasionally applies refractory cement to boiler tubing.
19. Performs structural steel maintenance on plant equipment by inspecting, installing, repairing, removing, modifying, laying out, and fabricating iron and steel components such as, stacks, ducts, equipment housings, beams, plates, column, handrails, platforms, walkways, all types of scaffolding, etc. Performs burning and uncertified welding. Rigs equipment and material for unusual or heavy lifts, and scaffolding and work platforms for personnel safety, etc. Operates cranes and other lifting or hoisting equipment as required.
20. Troubleshoots plant equipment as called for by daily work orders, inspects protective lock-out/tag-out. Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, drawings and diagrams, OEM manuals, etc.
21. Uses hand tools and instruments such as hammers, chippers, chisels, impact and torque wrenches, hand grinders, pliers, screwdrivers, calipers, feeler depth and indicating gauges, micrometers, test lamps, ammeters, valve grinding tools, etc. Erects scaffolding as necessary and performs rigging to make lifts and moves for safe handling of plant equipment.
22. May operate machine tools such as lathe, shaper, drill press, grinder, radial drill, surface grinder, air motor, arbor press, skill saw, etc., to fabricate new or repair old parts.
23. Fills out written reports on inspections and repairs made to plant and distribution equipment and verbally reports on faulty or unsafe equipment to the Site Manager.
24. Operates mobile equipment under working conditions to check and to facilitate repairs; plant cranes and lift trucks to move materials or equipment.
25. Performs the installation, removal and repair of insulation, masonry and refractories on plant and distribution equipment and structures.
26. Make sure that equipment, tools, work areas and shops are maintained in a clean and orderly condition; keep Company properties clean and neat
27. Must know, practice, and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work being performed. Furthermore, must write Safe Job Procedures when requested
28. Inspect Company vehicles prior to operation to maintain safe operation and avoid trouble and delays during scheduled work
· Assist other employees of any classification and any department as directed.
· Performs housekeeping duties as assigned and directed including cleaning motors, pumps, control panels, floors, restrooms etc.
· Assist and fill in positions for others as directed
· Continue educational growth by attending Company sponsored classes, learning new skills to advance to the next step in the PTU progression
· Assist with the training of other personnel in PTU program
· Must have good eyesight (able to distinguish colors), hearing and manual dexterity.
· Must have the ability to work independently or alongside others as part of a team.
· Must have valid State issued Driver’s License and the ability to operate a manual shift vehicle.
· Requires State of Michigan 3rd Class Engineers License or Equivalent.
· Must be able and willing to work in a variety of environments, such as cold weather, confined spaces, high areas, areas of increased temperature and humidity.
· Must be capable of heavy lifting (30#), climbing steps, ladders, and scaffolding.
· Must be able to perform practical calculations in arithmetic involving fractions and decimals and have the knowledge of common, weights and measures.
· Must be able to stand for long periods and perform repetitious tasks.
· Must be willing and able to work any given shift, at any BOMS LLC location and be available for emergency callouts when needed.
· Must have a good mechanical aptitude, be able to read precision measuring equipment and have a skilled use of hand tools.
· Must be able to perform given tasks with little supervision.
· Must present a good company image when dealing with visitors, customers, and vendors.
· Conduct daily Job Hazard Assessments (JHA) and train, correct and/or communicate problems to employees and management.
