Power & Utilities Console Operator
Summary of Position
The Power & Utilities Console Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring distributed control systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of terminal power and utility systems. Under direct supervision, the operator manages electronic data processing equipment, initiates and controls system operations, and takes corrective action during abnormal conditions. This role involves coordinating with area supervisors and the Terminal Utilities Superintendent for daily activities and maintenance, overseeing safe start-ups, shutdowns, and turnarounds, and maintaining accurate logs and optimization records. The operator is expected to adhere to all company safety and environmental standards while ensuring production specifications are consistently met.
Qualifications
Education
•High school diploma or equivalent required
•Associates Degree in Process Technology, preferred
Experience
•Minimum of 3 years experience as a Console Operator in power and/or utilities operations, required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
•Demonstrated knowledge and experience in operating power and utility control consoles.
•Capable of completing training and passing the Console Operator certification exam.
•Knowledge of electrical grids and switchgear.
•Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
•Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in making recommendations.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization as well as customers and regulatory agency officials.
•Entry level computer skills and knowledge of modern data processing procedures and terminology.
•Knowledge of the operation of a computer system and related electronic data processing. equipment including the operation of a DCS console; Experience with Honeywell Experian DCS is a plus.
•Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Applicable Additional Requirements
•Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nights, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays when required.
•Ability to obtain, or currently possess, a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential
Physical Requirements
•Ability to climb up to 100ft.
•Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
•Ability to push and pull, reach overhead, operator hand tools, stoop, and squat to enter confined spaces.
•Ability to wear breathing apparatus and applicable personal protective equipment to prevent against exposure to dust, fumes, or chemicals.
•Ability to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat.
