Power Asset Trader – (North America)
Role Summary
Gunvor is expanding its presence in the Power sector, building a North American portfolio focused on gas-fired generation, energy storage, and structured offtakes. We are seeking a Power Asset Trader to support the Head of Power Portfolio Management in evaluating investments and implementing asset-backed trading strategies.
The role will center on trading, optimization, and structuring, with responsibilities ranging from evaluating assets and complex derivatives (HRCOs, battery tolls, renewable PPAs, load firming for data centers) to designing and executing strategies that hedge exposures while trading around assets to maximize value.
This is a unique opportunity to join at the early stage of a platform build-out, where the successful candidate will have high visibility, broad responsibilities, and significant impact.
Key Responsibilities Trading & Portfolio Optimization
- Execute financial and physical trades (power, gas, emissions) in PJM and/or ERCOT linked to managed assets.
- Develop and execute asset-backed trading strategies to maximize risk-adjusted returns.
- Manage congestion rights, nodal spreads, time spreads, renewable shapes, proxy hedges, and other market products relevant to portfolio value.
- Identify short- and long-term market opportunities to enhance the value of assets.
- Heat Rate Call Options (HRCOs)
- Battery tolling agreements
- Wind and solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- Load firming products (e.g., data center supply structures)
- Shape commercial assumptions for asset valuation models in support of M&A/Corp Dev processes.
- Support the design and execution of Energy Management Agreements (EMAs) with third parties.
- Contribute to building Gunvor’s commercial and trading capabilities for power assets.
- Help establish pricing approaches, risk frameworks, and portfolio reporting.
- Coordinate with transversal teams (quants, fundamentals, risk, middle/back office) to ensure robust execution.
- Provide performance updates for internal stakeholders and external partners.- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of North American power markets (ERCOT and/or PJM).
- Proven track record in structured products and asset-backed trading.
- Experience balancing investor requirements with trading and portfolio value creation.
- Excellent communication skills, including board-level presentations and negotiation of commercial agreements.
