A. W. Schultz, Inc. (AWS) is actively seeking an experienced Senior PLC Programmer to join our team. This role requires an advanced level of expertise in PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming, with the ability to take ownership of projects from concept to commissioning. The Senior PLC Programmer will lead projects, mentor junior staff, and serve as a key technical resource for both our team and our customers. AWS provides automation and programming services throughout the U.S.
- Lead the design, development, programming, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Oversee full project lifecycles, including requirements gathering, programming, testing, documentation, and customer handoff.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
- Mentor and train junior programmers and provide technical guidance to project staff.
- Manage customer communications, including project updates, troubleshooting, and technical support.
- Conduct factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and provide customer training.
- Develop and maintain detailed project documentation, including I/O lists, control narratives, and system architecture drawings.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and networking issues onsite and remotely.- Experience: Minimum of 7+ years in PLC and HMI programming, with demonstrated success leading automation projects.
- Technical Expertise:
- Advanced proficiency in Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix) and familiarity with Siemens or other platforms.
- Strong HMI/SCADA development skills (FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Ignition, Wonderware, etc.).
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
- Familiarity with VFDs, instrumentation, and industrial networking.
- Professional Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to manage customer relationships and project expectations.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage teams, mentor junior programmers, and coordinate with cross-disciplinary staff.
- Problem-Solving: A passion for solving automation challenges independently and effectively.
- Additional Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel 10 to 25% throughout the U.S. (project-dependent).
- U.S. citizen, able to pass a background check.
- Experience with SCADA conversions and modernization projects.
- Prior work in water/wastewater, bulk-handling, or process-industry automation.
