Job Summary
Essential Functions
- Working on customer premises to turn gas on/off; reading meters; using pressure gauges to test for line integrity and gas detection instruments to locate leaks
- Performing all Field or Service Technician duties, as well as acting as lead employee over one or more staff engaged in pinpointing leakage, making repairs and replacing services or portions of mains
- Operating light earth-moving equipment, such as backhoe, side boom, tamper and hydra-crane
- General equipment maintenance, including cleaning, greasing and lubricating and transportation of equipment and/or materials
- Other duties include those performed by a Utility Technician on tie-ins, leakage repair and other construction operations
- Establishing or reestablishing service, including testing and inspecting service/house lines and lighting appliances according to policy/procedures and approved code transfers
- Installation and removal of gas meters, meter settings and regulators via locating/repairing curb boxes, removing active and inactive meters and disconnecting gas service at meter or curb box.
- Diploma from an accredited high school or a GED
- Must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
- Must be able to perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
- Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be able to pass applicable field and service strength tests and general aptitude testing.
- Must be dependable in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
- Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges and dials
- Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breaking apparatus
- Must be able to work overtime and respond to emergency callouts.
- Job requires working in all weather conditions
- Must be able to respond to emergency calls and work scheduled and non-scheduled overtime. Please note that hours during training may be different from that posted. To serve customers' needs, it may be necessary for incumbents to work a schedule or work location other than posted on a temporary basis to provide coverage during vacations/training.
- CDL - Group A - Commercial Drivers License and certification to operate Company trucks under the DOT/State Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for intrastate drivers within 3 months of being awarded the job within 90 Days
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State within 90 Days
- 1-3 years Experience of 24 months operating earth-moving equipment with knowledge of underground construction practices
