Met Weld International ("MWI") is seeking a skilled and reliable Plant Maintenance Technician to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and repair equipment to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient plant operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical and/or electrical background, be safety-focused, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. This is a full time, hourly (non-exempt) position, based in Altamont, NY.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance according to established schedules on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
- Develop (or refine) and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all plant equipment and infrastructure.
- Inspect and diagnose issues with plant equipment, including motors, conveyors, pumps, valves, compressors, and HVAC systems.
- Repair and replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and appropriate machinery.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and reports.
- Maintains files of warranties, records, licenses, inspections, service agreements, and contracts for various pieces of equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety standards and procedures.
- Assist in the installation of new machinery and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and comply with housekeeping standards.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs or upgrades.
- Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; recommend purchases when necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required, technical school certificate or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or a related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in a plant or industrial maintenance role.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and fabrication.
- Proficiency with welding equipment, grinders, cutting torches, and fabrication tools.
- Familiarity with PLC systems and control panels.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Basic computer skills for logging maintenance work and reading system diagnostics (Outlook, Excel).
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Must have the ability to multi-task, be flexible, motivated, resourceful, and organized to be able to meet critical and short deadlines.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and building systems. Troubleshoot and repair facility-related equipment including compressors, pumps, and lighting systems.
- Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout, PPE, and crane safety practices and other regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Comfortable working in an industrial environment with conditions such as heat, cold, noise, and machinery.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments requiring standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Use of hand and power tools, welders, lifts, and other industrial equipment.
- Onsite, Monday – Friday, 6 AM – 2:30 PM; occasional overtime and weekend work for emergencies and projects as needed.
