Mahipapa LLC is an independent power generation company that owns and operates a 7.5 MW closed loop biomass power generation facility and provides power to Kauai Island Utility Cooperative on the island of Kauai, State of Hawaii. Mahipapa’s operation includes managing and harvesting eucalyptus trees grown in Kauai, which is the sole fuel source for generating power to over 10% of homes and business on Kauai.
Mahipapa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Current, LLC, a non-regulated subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. [NYSE:HEI], a company established 2017 as part of HEI’s strategy to develop and invest in Hawaii based opportunities that serve as catalysis for a better Hawaii. Since its creation, Pacific Current has actively invested in and developed infrastructure projects in the areas of renewable energy, clean transportation and water/wastewater with the intent of being the long-term owner and operator of these projects and assets.
Plant Equipment Operator will be a key team member of our Operations Division who will be responsible for operating Front End Wheel Loaders used to feed wood chips into the hoppers to fuel the boiler, and large Telehandlers that are used to remove ash and move gear and equipment around the plant. The Plant Equipment Operator will also provide general labor as needed to support the power generation operations during planned and unplanned outages (cleaning equipment, moving maintenance equipment, parts, and gear, etc.). Specific skills relating to operating heavy equipment will include:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to control heavy equipment in case of an emergency.
- Operate equipment as directed in a safe manner and maintain plant situation awareness.
- Perform routine prior-to-operation maintenance work on equipment and vehicles (greasing, oiling, refueling, replenish DEF, cleaning, etc.).
- Notify Operations/Maintenance Management of alerts/faults or malfunctions using cabin display equipment and noticeable physical equipment malfunctions.
This position will report to the Assistant Plant Manager. We are looking for an energetic professional who is technically competent, punctual, efficient, and is able to work collaboratively within a small team of individuals with different levels of experience and backgrounds. This is a full-time position. Work hours can vary between 8 to 12 hours, and vary between day and night shifts. Usual work week will be on weekdays but may require occasional weekend work.

- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Experience operating heavy equipment is a plus, but motivated individuals can be trained on site in the operation of plant Wheel Loaders and Telehandlers.
- Manual dexterity, ability to climb in and around equipment and the ability to lift at least 25lbs.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
