Magnolia Power LLC is developing a new, start-of-the-art combined cycle power generating facility in Iberville Parish. The 700 MW generating station will use General Electric’s 7HA.03 advanced-class gas turbine in a one-on-one combined cycle configuration to provide best-in-class efficiency and emissions. The construction phase will be completed by the end of Fall 2025 and will move to commercial operations in the Winter 2025. We are now hiring qualified individuals with a priority focus on safety and environmental to support the operations and maintenance at Magnolia Power.
Job Overview:
The Plant Engineer is responsible for Plant engineering, operations, and maintenance support, and project management. The Plant Engineer serves as a resource for Plant employees to assist in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the facility.
- Subject-Matter Expert (SME), responsible for primary compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standards.
- Prepare required reports for the Owner and/or Utility.
- Serve as resource to all Plant employees, to ensure the facility operates as reliably and efficiently as possible.
- Understands Operating scheme to ensure safe and optimal operations; and works with Shift Operations teams in monitoring and interpreting data, readings, and operational situations, for variances and trending from prescribed operating standards and procedures.
- Performs and evaluates Plant-specific tests; related to operations, predictive and preventive maintenance, availability improvements, thermal efficiency, heat rate, and the cost of production.
- Makes recommendations regarding modifications to the Plant, for improved performance, availability, and reliability. Recommendations involve development of or revisions to equipment, operating procedures, system operating changes, design changes or improvements, and modification to or replacement of Plant equipment.
- Provides engineering support for operations and maintenance activities, and projects. Represents the Company, regarding appropriate engineering matters.
- Creates and reviews work scopes, updates drawings, and reviews designs. Provides technical support, direction, and activity supervision to contractors and other associates.
- Ensures that Engineering practices, codes, and standards are in compliance; and that Plant management is aware of industry best practices.
- Assists Plant management, with relevant input to the Annual Budget.
- Oversees improvement initiatives such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), to identify and develop enhancements to predictive and preventive maintenance programs, and Equipment Sparing strategies.
- Assists in the investigation of Plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events; and provides analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.
- Works with Chief Operator(s) and Maintenance Specialists, involved in the activities of performing efficient operations at the Cogeneration Plant. Supports and assists with modifying/creating operations and maintenance procedures, policies, and training plans.
- Works with Projects Specialist, in developing and implementing projects; and provides task updates.
- Works with Environmental & Safety Coordinator, to enforce and support all facility safety programs and safe-work permits, including Real-Time Monitoring (RTM) of Lock-Outs, Tag-Outs (LOTOs), Hot Work, Confined Space, Working at Heights, etc. Ensures safe working conditions for Plant employees and contractors.
- Maintains Repair Records.
- Responsible for ensuring that safety codes are followed during construction and outage projects that involve welding, electrical work, environmental projects…etc. Inspect the welding, electrical work, environmental projects…etc. work to make sure that it follows federal, local and state guidelines and also review work plans prior to construction and outage events.
- Ensure lift plans are properly arranged, resourced, and organized so that lifting operations are carried out without incident.
- Supports the activities of Maintenance employees, in performing maintenance and repairs. Provides input to task lists and schedules for Plant maintenance; especially during planned outage periods and forced outage situations.
- Responsible for tracking forced outages, de-rates, and loss of generation. Assist in the preparation of required reports. Monitors operational maintenance programs, to ensure historical records are maintained and trended, via Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or other equipment maintenance records.
- Utilizes HPI Tools.
- Completes other duties, as assigned by the Plant Manager.
- Time will be divided between office and field.
- Position may require climbing stairs; working at heights; standing for long periods of time; operating objects, tools or controls; reaching with hands and arms; operating large valves; and lifting heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust visual focus.
- Noise levels are moderately loud and may vary throughout the Plant site.
- Work may be required near moving mechanical parts; and employee may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock and vibration.
- Will be required to work dayshift, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility. F
- From time to time, the working hours will be determined on short notice, based on Plant requirements.
- Bachelor of Science degree, in an Engineering discipline required.
- 5 years experience in a Power Plant facility preferred.
- Work background must include demonstrated and progressively increasing responsibilities.
- Position requires a working knowledge of major health and safety regulations; as well as environmental, federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of Power Plant design, operations, and maintenance required.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills are a must.
- A working familiarity with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) rules and regulations is highly desirable
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel
