This role has the option to be a blend of remote and onsite work if department and business needs allow and with approval from direct supervision. Our hybrid remote work schedule combines three (3) days on premises with up to two (2) days remote.
The Plant Accounting Supervisor oversees, guides, motivates and directs the activities of the workgroup on a regular basis to provide accurate and timely completion of financial information relating to property, plant and equipment, construction work in progress, inventory, and transportation allocations for inclusion in financial and other reports in accordance with GAAP, RUS regulations, and EKPC policies and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with various accounting standards, principles, regulations (GAAP, FASB, RUS, and PSC) and EKPC policies as they relate to property and inventory accounting.
- Ensures the accuracy of project, asset, and inventory subledgers.
- Monitors and coordinates plant accounting deadlines for month-end close, year-end, and other reporting requirements.
- Develops and compiles budgetary information related to depreciation and property taxes.
- Partners with business units to determine if proposed projects meet capitalization requirements, evaluate the status of open projects, and identify assets to place in service or retire.
- Works with Supply Chain to research and resolve inventory subledger issues and in completing the annual physical count process.
- Works with the Treasury department to ensure project information is available.
- Responsible for related PeopleSoft modules, ensuring the integrity of data, proper security access for modules, and upgrades are properly implemented and function as designed.
- Provides work direction and ensures training and development of staff.
- Provides coaching, completes performance evaluations, and participates in the hiring and disciplinary processes.
- Ensures cross-training occurs within the group.
- Continuously investigates methods for process improvements, recommends changes, and assists with implementation.
- Assists the Controller in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to plant accounting.
- Oversees the compilation of information required for the preparation of the annual property tax return and quarterly transportation tax returns.
- Works with external auditors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor¿s degree in accounting preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Certified Public Accountant license preferred.
- Seven (7) years of related experience. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a leadership capacity is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage, develop, and motivate staff.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting methodologies, principles, and standards, including GAAP, FASB, IFRS, RUS, FERC, IRS, KRS, and other state and local taxing regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of fixed asset accounting with RUS or FERC property accounting preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of financial statements and information systems required.
- Working knowledge of tax rules and regulations related to property and vehicles.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to effectively work with a variety of personnel at all levels of the organization including external contacts.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills, including public speaking.
- Provides thorough and timely communication to leadership, staff, and stakeholders.
- Strong customer relations orientation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, planning, and organization skills required.
- Advanced level knowledge of Excel, PeopleSoft, and asset management systems preferred.
