As a Piping Engineering Designer, you will be part of Irving Oil’s Engineering Services team. Your goal will be to understand the work and information flow among disciplines and to coordinate multi-discipline designs. Your success in this role will be seen in your ability to work within a team, effectively multi-task, and adapt to shifting priorities.

- Work on piping projects including development, maintenance, research and installation
- Production of piping engineering drawings and 3D modelling and ensure design meet the needs of other stakeholders
- Coordinate and squad-check drawings with other engineering disciplines
- Ensure layouts conform to functional requirements, standards and specifications
- Work on design concept reviews; work with different modelling techniques and cross functional teams to find the best solution
Perform field visits to collect measurements and other field data
- Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWOs), Bills of Material (BOMs), effort hour estimates, materials estimates, other cost estimates, engineering schedules, Scopes of Work (SOWs), Scopes of Facilities (SOFs) for projects
- Coordinate the overall planning of the detailing approach and work with engineers to define and re-define the scope of work for projects
- Monitor and inspect construction operations to ensure compliance to engineering design, site standards, and specifications
- Strong technical report writing skills
- Knowledge and Training in AutoCAD, MicroStation and 3D modelling (i.e. Plant 3D, PDS)
- Able to develop, read and interpret engineering drawings
- Able to review, understand and comment on vendor technical drawings
- Able to run model reviews. (Navisworks)
- Practical mindset to engineering designs and constructability
- Sound knowledge of common engineering / design concepts, best practices, and procedures
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be well organized and have ability to balance multiple priorities
- Analytical thinker who enjoys finding solutions to problems
- Willing and able to continuously learn both through formal training and self-study
- Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
- This position requires you to spend time in the field, so you must be able to work in a heavy industrial setting (sometimes at elevation) and wear any required PPE
- 1-5 years of experience as a Piping Engineering Designer, preferably with refinery and petrochemical experience
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology or design is an asset
- NBSCETT certified, or eligible in the province of NB, is an asset
