Pay and Benefits:

Employees with journeyman mechanical work experience who are qualified can start at $60.38. The maximum rate for the position is $65.85 with demonstrated qualification/proficiency after being hired. Annual increases are scheduled.
Over-time Opportunities Available as Desired.
Annual salary without over-time is over $110,000 a year minimum.
Annual Bonus plan that applies to all annual eligible earnings with a target of 6% - 12% of your annual income. ($6,600 - $13,200)
401k plan with Company match of 7% on 6% employee contribution. (Minimum - $7,700)
Cash balance pension plan of 7%/9%/11% depending on age and years of service. (Minimum - $7,700)
Paid vacation, sick and holidays - 3 weeks of vacation, 7 sick days and 10 paid holiday.

Job Summary:

Marathon’s Martinez Renewables Facility, in Martinez, CA is currently looking for an experienced Pipefitter/Welder/Exchanger Mechanic. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.


Key Responsibilities:

Use of various tools and equipment to assemble/disassemble flanges, blind/de-blind equipment, demo/install piping, pull/replace valves, clean/repair heater burners, pull and clean filters/screens, torque/tension joints, make-up/fabricate tubing and threaded piping, and perform hydrostatic testing.
Ensure that equipment is safely prepared for Maintenance and all documents are in order prior to starting work.
Ensure all work is performed in a safe and environmentally compliant manner, adhering to site Health and Safety processes and Environmental regulations.
Perform work per applicable technical standards and specifications (Marathon, Industry, or Manufacturer).
Able to read and understand schematics and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Able to field-measure and draw isometric sketches for piping layout and fabrication.
Responsible for safely operating various types of mobile equipment, including forklifts, fixed cab cranes, and aerial lifts.
Able to work as a team and collaborate to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards.
Effective verbal and written communication and reporting on work being performed.
Expected to train on Exchanger craft, including knowledge of exchanger types, exchanger-specific tooling and procedures, and rigging and pulling exchanger bundles.
Expected to train on Welding craft, including knowledge of filler metals and electrodes, welding preparation, types of welding, and NDE testing methods.


Education, Experience and Skills


Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must have completion of a recognized Pipefitter or Boilermaker apprenticeship program or two years of verifiable journeyman level pipefitter/boilermaker work experience.
Must be knowledgeable on the use of tools/equipment of the trade and general rigging methods.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the facility and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Must obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to support irregular or extended work hours and call-out situations when needed.


Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in a refining, petrochemical, or other related industry preferred.
Heat exchanger knowledge/experience preferred, but not required.
Welding knowledge/experience preferred, but not required.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and SAP preferred.
Direct experience with Pipefitter/Boilmaker role
