Black Gold is seeking a licensed P.Eng. or APEGS (Petroleum or Chemical or Reservoir) consultant to support our growing team on a part-time contract basis.
The successful candidate must be licensed with APEGA, EGBC, or APEGS and bring demonstrated experience in:
- AER / ERCB H2S release rate models and nomograph calculations
- Hazard Risk Assessments – Storage Tanks
- Sour gas operations and regulatory compliance
- Petroleum drilling & completions, production facilities, pipelines, and gathering systems
This role involves working closely with our H2S Hazard Assessment Specialist to finalize EPZs for upstream oil and gas assets, including wells, pipelines, and facilities. Candidates with practical well operations knowledge, process safety expertise, and strong regulatory awareness are encouraged to apply.
- Perform and review H2S hazard assessments, including release rate and EPZ calculations.
- Collaborate with clients to gather engineering, operational, and analytical data (well data, pipeline specifications, ESD set points, isolation valves, etc.).
- Apply engineering judgment to validate and finalize EPZs in compliance with AER and other jurisdictional regulations.
- Utilize modeling and mapping software (AER/ERCB H2S models, E2 flammability, ALOHA, AbaData, AccuMap) to prepare submissions and client reports.
- Liaise with regulators and government agencies to ensure compliance and submit regulatory filings.
- Provide subject matter expertise on drilling & completions release rate assessments, sour gas handling, facilities design considerations, and emergency response engineering.
- Professional Engineer designation in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering (APEGA, EGBC, APEGS required).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in upstream oil & gas operations, facilities, or process engineering.- Proficiency in AER/ERCB H2S models, release rate calculations, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with drilling & completions, sour gas facilities, production operations, and wellsite engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, mapping software, and industry databases.
- Consulting or regulatory submission experience considered an asset.
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
