Job Summary
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll Student to join our team for a paid internship or co-op placement. This role offers hands-on experience in payroll operations, compliance, and HR systems. You’ll support the payroll team in processing employee compensation accurately and timely, while learning the ins and outs of payroll legislation, pension contributions, and best practices.
Your Tasks:
- Review and verify employee timesheets, leave records, and pay adjustments
- Help maintain payroll records and ensure data accuracy in HRIS systems
- Support year-end tax reporting (e.g., T4s, ROEs) and reconciliation tasks
- Assist in tracking and updating pension contribution changes (e.g. employer-sponsored plans)
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure compliance with labour laws and pension regulations
- Participate in audits and process improvement initiatives
- Support best payroll practices/creation payroll manual
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Accounting, Human Resources,
- Business Administration, or related field
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable with data entry
- Familiarity with payroll software (e.g. Dayforce) is an asset
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Real-world experience in payroll operations and HR systems
- Exposure to Canadian payroll legislation and pension contribution regulations
- Mentorship from experienced payroll professionals
