The Overhead Lineworker Grade C is the entry rating held by an employee during the period he or she is acquiring the necessary knowledge and experience required to progress through the established Overhead Lineworker ratings.
Overhead Lineworkers assist in the installation, removal, inspection and repair of overhead plant and apparatus at heights not in excess of 35 feet above ground. The Overhead Lineworker Grade C will learn specifications, procedures and requirements relating to work on overhead lines and various types of overhead circuits.
Individuals must be able to perform work assignments at the apprentice line worker level including distribution transmission work; work emergency and overtime when the need exists; candidate must demonstrate safe working practices; have the mechanical ability to use hand/power tools, and equipment pertinent to line construction and maintenance; and can climb and work on poles, ladders, and other elevated structures.
Candidate will be required to successfully complete a Company administered Overhead Lineworker School and subsequent training in order to progress in the role.
Starting Rate of Pay for the Entry Grade C Level is $41.25 per hour, after six months the rate increases to $42.57.
- Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and at times for extended periods.
- Ability to stand a minimum of five to six hours on the ground – may be in a bucket on a line truck or at the top of a distribution pole.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to push/pull weights up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights and breadths.
- Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat.
1. Must have the ability to learn: The fundamentals of electricity; the layout, functions and construction of the Company’s overhead electrical system; the standards and specifications for installation, maintenance, removal and repair of the overhead electric system; the practices, principles of operations and the proper applications of equipment as prescribed by the Company for safety and first aid.
3. Two years of electrical or related trade experience is required. Pole climbing experience is preferred. Completion of an Overhead Lineworker Training Program strongly preferred.
4. Must have a Massachusetts License to Operate Motor Vehicles and a satisfactory driving record. CDL License strongly preferred.
5. Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL license before progressing to the next level.
6. Must pass Company approved EEI testing (CAST) and successfully complete a Company administered overhead physical task related prescreen.
7. Must have a work history that demonstrates safe work habits.
8. Successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a Company administered Overhead Lineworker School. The Company administered Lineworker school lasts approximately five to six weeks and is conducted at our Wareham, MAlocation.
- After completing the lineworker school, the next three months are spent in field training at the Walpole, Waltham, Wareham, or Yarmouth, MA locations. Location to be determined by seniority. After the three months of field training, a permanent location is assigned. This location will be determined by availability and seniority. Potential locations could be: Plymouth, Yarmouth, New Bedford, Walpole, Waltham, or Somerville, MA.
