Definition: "A cut above average" means someone is significantly better than the usual or average quality worker, essentially being of a higher standard or level compared to others of a similar kind; it implies being superior or "a step up" from the norm.
Job Summary
If you understand and fit the above definition, we'd love to talk with you about our open positions in our pipe yard. (Need 2 for pipe yard labor and one heavy equipment/ loader operator).
We never sugar-coat it; this is hard, physical work. You're outdoors 100 percent of the time, regardless of weather conditions. When it's scorching hot, we work. When it's blowing snow and icy cold, we're still working. Physical stamina is an absolute must have.
Of equal importance, we are searching for candidates with strong critical thinking skills, sound judgement and the ability to apply practical reasoning to situations. Really, that's just a fancy way to say "common sense and a little smarts upstairs". Someone who can complete our sometimes complicated inventory and inspection field reporting both accurately and quickly.
Oil and gas experience is not required, but always helpful. We expect our "Cut Above the Average" candidates to have all the basics: attention to detail, ability to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of co-workers and to work safely.
We will also be hiring an experienced front end loader. We prefer someone who is comfortable with forks and extra points if you've loaded/unloaded oilfield tubing and casing previously, but we'll teach someone with aptitude!
Our company's reputation has been built on the quality of our work and when we finish our inspection, our clients know they can depend on the results we provide. That means all tasks must be completed to the highest standards. We don't cut corners.
- Perform inspection related tasks like drifting and hydro testing; look for thread damage, pitting, cracks etc.
- Sort tubing and casing; stencil inspection results and paint accordingly for multiple clients.
- Complete daily projects on time, with high quality work. Quantity is important, but it's useless if we have to re-work because the first result is of poor quality.
- Safely load and unload trucks/trailers. ACCURATE counts on incoming pipe. ACCURATE tallies on outgoing pipe.
- Provide reliable inventory information when moving pipe from rack to inspection area and vice versa.
- Possible we'll train on using front end loader with forks; occasional welding. Bonus points if you're able to perform equipment maintenance and basic repairs.
- Previous experience in oil and gas services is preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to quality and safety.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with others from diverse backgrounds.
- Overtime is frequent and mandatory; frequent work on Saturday mornings and other hours during the weekends if necessary.
- Must have own outdoor clothing and steel/composite boots.
We work 12 months out of the year with no seasonal layoffs or slowdowns. Our crew averages 7 - 10 hours of overtime per week, even during our slowest periods. There are many weeks where the yard crew will work 15-20 hours of OT. That's always great for the paycheck, but isn't the best match for everyone's lifestyle or family.
If you're one of the few who really is "A Cut Above Average", and can not only "talk the talk, but walk the walk", we want you! Our owner views our crew as part of his extended family and we're looking for a couple of core people who will embrace and enhance the family's reputation for high quality, dependable work.
