Job Overview
The Non-Ferrous Metals Dock Associate is responsible for identifying, grading, purchasing, sorting, and preparing non-ferrous metals for resale or processing. This team member plays a key role in ensuring accurate material categorization, customer service, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
•Material Handling & Processing:
•Identify and grade various non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, lead, insulated wire, etc.
•Operate tools and equipment (e.g., shears, saws, wire strippers, scales, and forklifts) safely and effectively.
•Prepare metals for shipment or resale by cleaning, sorting, and packaging according to company standards.
•Greet and assist customers bringing in non-ferrous materials.
•Educate customers on pricing, acceptable materials, and proper unloading procedures.
•Communicate with honesty and professionalism while ensuring fair and accurate grading.
•Compliance & Documentation:
•Weigh materials accurately and document transactions using the scale system.
•Collect and verify customer information (e.g., ID, signatures, photos) as required by state/local scrap laws.
•Ensure compliance with all environmental and safety regulations related to non-ferrous material handling.
•Maintain a clean and organized non-ferrous area.
•Conduct daily inspections of equipment and report issues immediately.
•Follow all PPE requirements and promote a safety-first mindset.
Qualifications:
•High school diploma or GED preferred.
•Prior experience in scrap metal or recycling industry is a plus.
•Ability to distinguish between different grades of metal by sight, weight, or magnet test.
•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and work in outdoor conditions year-round.
•Basic math skills and attention to detail.
•Forklift experience/certification is a plus (or willingness to be certified).

Pay: From $13.00 per hour
