Position Description
Nevada Gold Mines seeks a Tailings and Heap Leach Manager provide corporate best practice guidance and senior level review to NGM sites and projects. The Manager will assist and ensure site’s compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements and conformance with Barrick’s Corporate Standards, Global Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), and other applicable standards and guidelines. The Manager will act as a link between the sites and senior leadership by conveying critical information on the performance of the facilities and assisting the concerned parties in the decision-making required to mitigate identified risks. The Manager will also liaise with the Engineers of Record providing technical review and guidance.
Responsibilities
•Serve as technical advisor and a senior level reviewer for NGM on tailings and heap leach facilities.
•Stay up to date on the state of practice in geotechnical engineering applicable to the design, construction, operation and closure of tailings storage and heap leach facilities, and their ancillary structures
•Conduct critical review of site investigation plans, technical reports, engineering designs, construction drawings, specifications, and monitoring data.
•Conduct regular performance reviews of the NGM facilities and develop appropriate risk reduction measures.
•Engage and interact with consultants and contractors providing assessment and directive recommendations of technical work.
•Lead the sites preparation for independent reviews, attend the scheduled reviews and ensure that recommendations are acted upon.
•Review dam safety inspection, dam safety review, and assurance audit reports and ensure that recommendations are acted upon.
•Lead and participate in technical evaluations and risk assessments and assist in the development of mitigation strategies.
•Provide technical supervision and guidance to site based Responsible Tailings Facility Engineers (RTFE) and Heap Leach Responsible Persons.
•Ensure site’s compliance with appliable laws and regulatory requirement, and conformance with internal standards, and the GISTM.
•Report on the status of tailings storage and heap leach facilities, monitoring programs, and compliance activities to NGM and Barrick leadership.
•Plan, coordinate, and oversee annual reviews and audits of tailings and heap leach facilities.
•Organize training programs to build capacity in tailings and heap leach management best practices.
•Promote knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement in tailings and heap leach management processes across all sites.
•Represent the company in stakeholder engagements related to tailings management, including interactions with regulators, local communities, and industry groups.
•Mentor, train and develop site-based engineers.
•Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
•Registered Professional Engineer preferred.
•Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering or related engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
•10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, tailings management, or a related discipline required.
•Knowledge of Tailings and Heap leach operations and construction required.
•Knowledge of GISTM and tailings management principles, including geotechnical analysis, water and mass balance modeling, and monitoring techniques preferred.
•Strong project management and organizational skills to oversee multiple sites and teams effectively required.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with site teams, corporate leadership, and external stakeholders required.
•Familiarity with audit processes and experience coordinating third-party reviews preferred.
