The Network Technician Specialist performs general maintenance of telecommunications equipment and facilities. They complete customer equipment installations, fibre terminations, cable pulls, Cat5 cabling and re-route customer fibre cables in addition to maintaining many parts of the fibre network.
Set up new customers, move existing fibre cable for customers and prepare customer sites for fibre termination.
Develop and implement maintenance plans for infrastructure components.
Perform fusion splicing on fibre optic cables at customer sites and within company facilities.
Interact with customers to explain work that is being completed and respond to questions.
Develop and maintain inventory lists for departmental inventory.
Maintain inventory, order and pick up supplies as required.
Complete locates for telecommunications infrastructure and advise contractors of requirements and best practices for excavations while performing work near telecommunications infrastructure.
Ensure work is completed in compliance with safety policies, procedures, regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
Intermediate proficiency installing fibre optic network components and troubleshooting issues
Intermediate ability to complete wireless network installations and maintenance
Intermediate knowledge of Cisco equipment installation requirements and their operation
Intermediate ability to use hand tools to perform maintenance tasks
Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
Post-secondary diploma in a technology or electronics program
3+ years’ previous experience in a telecommunications environment
