Miner 1 - Experienced Infill Driller (East Tennessee Mines; Strawberry Plains, TN)

The Role

The purpose of this job is to optimize safe extraction of Materials at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. The Long hole/Exploration Drillers operates long-hole Drill Rigs to drill long holes in sections, collecting cutting sample per section then packaging and labeling for the geology department. Long holes are drilled to geology department specifications as to depth, direction, and angle.

Key Accountabilities

- Plans and prepares drilling site (geology plans, operations prepare the sites)

- Moves equipment and materials to site

- Drills and monitors progression

- Interprets drill plans then drills holes and realign equipment according to drill design and ground conditions Monitors ground conditions and components to maintain safe drilling operations

- Installs collar pipes according to site procedures We don’t use collar pipe unless drill through a packer in anticipation of hitting water

- Removes drill cuttings and sludge to ensure drill hole remains clean

- Completes all required documentation clearly, concisely and marks misdirected holes according to site procedures

- Packs up drill site and conducts housekeeping activities

- Carries out operator maintenance

- Promote and demonstrate safe behavior, always in compliance with site standards and SHEC procedures as well as MSHA regulations.

- Report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives, reviews and investigations.

- Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations and report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives, reviews and investigations and takes responsibility for safety of all personnel at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

- 5 years’ experience in mining and mine specific equipment at a Miner 1 level.

- Demonstrated competence in ground control and understanding of technical and operating process relevant to mine planning and scheduling

- Able to operate a long hole drill, read geologist hole specifications, and read an angle gage 2 2, able to read and secure ground as needed.

- Sound understanding of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities.

- Able to perform job with minimum supervision

- Competent in providing accurate samples

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum high school education or equivalent

- 5 years of underground mining experience

- Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office Excel and Word

- Tennessee Class C Foreman’s Certificate or equivalent (preferred)

- Competent in being able to read ground and conduct Stope inspection

- Competent in tasks to include, drilling, scaling, bolting, and installing of water needle

- Strong Knowledge of MSHA-Regulations
