The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of inspection tasks related to surface and underground work areas, including installing and utilizing geotechnical sensors and equipment, and performing borescope inspections. In addition, the position will handle rock mechanics data, field observations, historical information, numerical modeling, vibration seismography, surface and underground surveying, and AutoCAD mapping. This individual will be responsible for the organization and upkeep of all record keeping associated with these duties.
- Perform routine evaluation/inspection of surface and underground workplace.
- Install geotechnical monitoring sensors and equipment.
- Conduct routine bore scope inspections in underground workings; record results and provide recommendations to the Engineering Manager, Mine General Supervisor and Mine Superintendent.
- Conduct pull tests and torque tests on installed ground support.
- Complete ground control reports and autocad drawings for mine operations.
- Generate monthly updates for the mine’s Emergency Response Plans.
- Monitor airflow, air quality, and temperature measurements and generating weekly ventilation reports.
- Perform weekly audits on auxiliary ventilation quality and providing improvements recommendations.
- Ensure mine wide compliance to ventilation regulatory requirements.
- Assist in product quality control.
- Other duties as assigned and required.
- EIT in Civil or Mining Engineering or 3 Year Diploma in Mining (or Civil) Technology or 2 Year Technician Diploma.
- 2 years experience working in an underground mine.
- Adept with the use of engineering and data software, including Microsoft office suite and preferably AUTOCAD.
- Underground surveying experience highly beneficial.
- Exceptional written, oral communication and time management skills.
- This job operates partially in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Must be able to wear the required PPE (steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, safety harness and electrical safety equipment).
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse workplace and outside year-round.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50+ lbs.- Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.
