Since 2009, Gowest has expanded its land holdings in the North Timmins Gold Project (“NTGP”) area to cover a total of 109 square km in the Timmins gold camp, with much of the additional lands being located along the same geological structures – along the largely undeveloped Pipestone Fault, believed to be a splay off the prolific Porcupine-Destor Fault, which has produced the majority of the 145 million ounces of gold produced historically along the Abitibi-Greenstone belt – that host Gowest’s Bradshaw Gold Deposit (formerly Frankfield East) as well as a number of other gold showings.
The Mine Operations Superintendent plays a key leadership role at the Bradshaw Mine Site, overseeing all aspects of underground contractor mining activities. Reporting to the Mine Manager / Engineering Coordinator, this position is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations in alignment with corporate, environmental, and regulatory objectives. The Superintendent will drive performance through effective contractor management, strategic planning, operational oversight, and a strong focus on safety and production targets.
- Oversee day-to-day underground mining operations carried out by contractor teams.
- Ensure contractor performance aligns with the terms of their contracts and company standards.
- Provide clear direction and strategic leadership to meet operational and safety objectives.
- Ensure production targets are met, including safety, grade control, dilution, and development metrics.
- Support stope sequencing through proper ventilation, ground control, and geological planning.
- Prepare the Mine department's annual budget and monitor performance to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Establish annual goals and objectives for the department and ensure alignment with overall site strategy.
- Analyze operational performance through reports, KPIs, and site inspections; take corrective action as needed.
- Contribute technical expertise and guidance to improve underground mining methods and practices.
- Support the introduction of new equipment and techniques to optimize productivity and safety.
- Collaborate with engineering, geology, and other departments to coordinate operational priorities.
- Ensure operations are compliant with federal and provincial regulations and corporate policies.
- Promote a safety-first culture by actively supporting all health and safety initiatives.
- Maintain a healthy work environment with a commitment to achieving an accident-free workplace.
- Liaise with internal departments, regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Labour), contractors, and consultants as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 15 years of underground mining experience, including narrow vein gold mining.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing contractor-led mining operations.
- Strong understanding of mine planning, production reporting, budgeting, and cost control.
- Well-developed technical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic First Aid certification an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.
- Willingness to relocate to Timmins, Ontario.
- The role is located at the Frankfield Property, which is in the southwest part of Tully Township, approximately 32 km north-northeast of the City of Timmins, Ontario
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on and 3 days off (10-hour days). Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
