INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Job Title: Mine Engineer Intern Reports To: Chief Mine Engineer Location: New Mexico – East
OVERVIEW
A Mine Engineer Intern will provide timely, innovative, and realistic engineering support to both management and the mine operations group. The primary responsibilities include assisting Mine Technician/Surveyor and Mine Engineer with day-to-day tasks and projects.
Corporate housing in Carlsbad, NM will be provided for the Intrepid internship program.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators and mine operating statistics
- Assist with creation of volume and quantity surveys on stockpiles and product storage warehouses
- Assist Mine Technicians with surveying tasks required to support mine operations
- Perform research and design projects focusing on improved efficiency or reduced cost per ton
- Participate in various portions of the engineering process, including, but not limited to: safety audits, the development and review of operating procedures, and equipment selection research and recommendation
- Valid Drivers License
- High school diploma or GED
- Active pursuit of Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mine Engineering; one to two years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated familiarity in mining engineering disciplines for underground - ventilation, rock mechanics, production engineering, equipment, etc.
- Knowledge of MSHA regulations is a plus
- Understanding of advanced surveying procedures preferred
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
9/80 schedule, Monday - Thursday, 9-hour workdays, Fridays worked, 8-hour workday, with every other Friday off, or 12-hour production schedule while collecting data for various projects. Schedule subject to change.
- Underground mining environment that is often not well lit and is at low heights
- Exposed to louder than moderate noises (ex: vehicle noises, machinery noises, etc.)
- Employees are required to wear safety attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Standing, walking, sitting (while driving) over 2/3 of work time, squatting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and fingers movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and push and/or pull up to 50 lbs. less than 1/3 of the time
- Must be able to perceive color differences
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed
A pre-placement physical and hair follicle drug test will be required for anyone selected for this opportunity. Placement into the position will not be made until the results are received and cleared by Intrepid.
