Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, you will be part of the Mine Operations Department. You will be responsible for meeting all safety, production and cost targets in a designated area of mine as established by management. You will be a key team member responsible for the planning and operations of mining activities. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Model and reinforce safety in all operating procedures and in meeting governmental regulations
- Inspect underground workstations
- Follow up on any accidents or incidents, take corrective action on safety issues and on any reported safety concerns
- Be vigilant in identifying and correcting potential safety or loss control hazards
- Ensure conformance to government regulations and all internal policies concerning the safe operation of the mine
- Inform and receive information from all departments regarding such issues as production targets and maintenance
- Continually provide information primarily to shifters and also to crews as necessary
- Communicate through Captain’s log with shifters on the off-shift
- Lead by example, provide guidance and motivate supervisors and crews to work safely
- Maintain and develop your own technical and management skills and knowledge, and support others in their learning
- Evaluate and maintain work standards explain/support company policies, procedures and standards
- Provide on-the-job input and constructive feedback on job performance, which includes both positive reinforcement as well as correcting negative behavior
- Maintain good relations and positive attitude of employees
- Demonstrate professionalism and represent company philosophy and goals
- Co-ordinate day-to-day mining activities amongst all supervisors such as maintenance, material handling and inventory
- Consult and contribute to Engineering and Mining plans and schedules
- Ensure acceptable productivity levels in Longhole drilling, blasting and mucking to meet monthly mining schedules
- Provide professional and technical support and expertise to mine and plant projects as required
- Troubleshoot technical problems
- Stay current with and open to new technologies
- Administer policies such as absenteeism and discipline etc.
- Balance time sheets and overtime distribution, verify productivity bonuses and authorize vacation
- Control inventory and equipment levels
- Confirm that legislated inspections are completed
- Assist in annual budget setting and track costs in accord to annual budget monthly
- Other duties as assigned from time
- A minimum of a Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Ten (10) years of experience in mining is required
- At least three (3) years must be at the supervisory level
- Competency with Ontario Mining Act and Regulations
- Good Communication skills
- Leadership training and professionalism in personnel support
- Champion of safety in day-to day activities
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint
