Microsoft Power BI Report Developer

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Power BI Report Developer to design, develop, and maintain interactive, visually compelling, and data-driven reports and dashboards. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Power BI, strong SQL skills, and a deep understanding of business intelligence best practices to transform raw data into actionable insights. This position is based out of Enerflex’ s SE Calgary office.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Design, develop, and maintain high-impact Power BI reports and dashboards aligned with business objectives and corporate standards.

- Promote consistency in visual design and user experience in alignment with corporate branding and communication standards.

- Create DAX queries, measures, and calculated columns to support business logic.

- Optimize report performance and user experience.

- Develop and maintain efficient data models in Power BI.

- Connect to various data sources (SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, etc.).

- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security.

- Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs.

- Translate business requirements into technical specifications.

- Provide training and support for Power BI users.

- Implement and follow BI development standards, including naming conventions, documentation, and version control.

- Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security policies.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).

- 4+ years of experience in developing reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.

- Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), Power Pivot and data modeling.

- Solid experience with SQL and relational databases.

- Expertise in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service (workspaces, publishing, gateways).

- Experience with ETL tools and data preparation processes.

- Understanding of REST APIs and custom data connectors (nice to have).

- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure (Data Factory, Synapse Analytics) is a plus.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.

- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and data quality.

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with additional reporting tools such as Tableau, SAP Business Objects, or SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP SuccessFactors.

- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure ecosystem, especially Azure Fabric, Data Lake, Synapse, and Data Factory

- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or R for data analysis.
