- This position is responsible for managing Startup & Commissioning for NiSource Gas Major Projects*
Job Summary
Responsible for leading a team of Startup and Commissioning Leads to effectively plan, optimize and verify startup and commissioning efforts associated with gas projects performed by Gas Major Projects. Project assignments normally include but are not limited to Point of Delivery Stations (POD), District Regulator Stations, Gas Measurement Buildings, and pipeline conditioning.
Essential Functions
- Provide oversight role for commissioning projects implemented by Gas Major Projects organization.
- Optimize the effectiveness of contractors that are assigned by being the central point of contact for all the Startup and Commissioning functions.
- Actively engage with Business Unit and System Operations Leadership regarding current and future projects and resource needs.
- Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the Core 4 Responsibilities, NiSource Health and Safety manual, and ensuring a safe working environment focused on safe operations with zero incidents.
- Ensure there is actively participate in 30/60/90 percent project reviews meetings.
- Provide training for Gas Major Projects and System Operations/GM&T personnel on Startup and Commissioning processes.
- Develop and manage the effective completion of startup activities for assigned projects with respect to safety, scope, schedule and budget.
- Hold team members accountable for adherence to the NiSource Startup & Commissioning Handbook
- Ensure the Commissioning Lead is effectively interfacing with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Project Engineers, Project Managers, Inspection Service Staff, and System Operations personnel regarding all startup and commissioning issues.
- Assure the startup & commissioning effort is consistent and compliant with project plans.
- Review and support development of the commissioning budget and schedule for each project.
- Ensure safety and environmental policies are being followed and that the project is being commissioned according to the project specifications, drawings, and environmental permits.
- Effectively manage conflict to resolve disputes.
- Provide organization of startup activities, delegate's project task assignments, set team requirements, expectations, manage deliverables, and hold team members accountable.
- Provide effective leadership and team building to achieve corporate and organizational goals.

- Required Qualifications for Position
- 4-year Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management degree, or degree in a closely related technical field from an accredited college or university and 1-3 years field experience related to startup activities and/or project management
- 2-year degree, military training, or the equivalent formal training in Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a closely related field and 3-5 years of field experience related to startup activities and/or project management
- 7 years of experience including work in one or more of the following areas: Measurement and Regulation, Project Management, Engineering.
- Proven outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with all stakeholders.
- Strong process / procedure mindset.
- Demonstrates a high-level of confidence in the ability to lead a team and programs/projects to successful conclusion.
