Job Summary:
The Metals Finishing / Deburring / Grinding Technician is responsible for the final surface preparation of sheet metal and machined parts. This includes removing burrs, sharp edges, weld discoloration, and imperfections to ensure parts meet cosmetic and dimensional specifications before final assembly or coating. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, has a good eye for detail, and understands the importance of surface finish in high-quality manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
•Inspect parts for sharp edges, burrs, surface defects, and inconsistencies.
•Use a variety of hand tools and equipment such as air tools, orbital sanders, belt sanders, die grinders, files, deburring wheels, and Scotch-Brite pads.
•Perform manual and mechanical grinding, sanding, and polishing to achieve required surface finish.
•Follow work orders, drawings, and inspection criteria to complete parts to specification.
•Work closely with Welding, Quality, and Assembly teams to resolve surface finish issues.
•Maintain a clean and safe work area, following all company safety guidelines.
•Assist with part handling, racking, or preparation for painting, plating, or assembly as needed.
•Identify and report any part defects or inconsistencies to supervisor or quality personnel.
•Suggest improvements to processes or tooling to increase efficiency and quality.
Skills and Qualifications:
•High School diploma or GED required.
•1–3 years experience in metal finishing, deburring, or similar role in a manufacturing environment preferred.
•Familiarity with sheet metal and machined parts handling and finishing.
•Ability to read basic mechanical drawings and understand surface finish symbols.
•Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
•Capable of using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
•Able to work independently and as part of a team.
•Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 35 lbs.
Work Environment:
•Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to dust, noise, and hand tools.
