Role Overview: As a Finishing Technician at Johnson Metal Works, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality product is delivered to clients. Finishing Technicians are responsible for applying custom patina and paint finishes to metal components, adding unique character and durability to our high-quality architectural and industrial products. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with a background in metal finishing and a passion for artistry and precision.
- Surface Preparation: Prepare metal surfaces for finishing, including cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming, to ensure optimal adhesion and durability of the finish.
- Patina and Paint Techniques: Use specialized techniques to apply and layer patinas, creating a range of colors, textures, and effects. Apply paint finishes that meet high-quality standards for color consistency, texture, and appearance.
- Quality Inspection: Perform quality control checks on finished pieces to verify consistency, finish quality, and adherence to specifications.
- Collaboration with Fabrication and Install Teams: Coordinate with fabricators and project managers to align finishing techniques with design requirements and project timelines.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of finishing processes, techniques, and materials used for each project to ensure reproducibility.
- Maintenance of Finishing Equipment and Workspace: Regularly clean and maintain finishing tools, equipment, and the workspace to support a safe, organized environment.
- Proficiency in patina and paint application techniques specific to metal, with experience in layering and blending finishes.
- Knowledge of surface preparation, metal finishing materials, and application tools.
- Familiarity with color theory and techniques to achieve specific textures and effects on metal surfaces.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure finishes meet JMW’s high-quality standards and specific client requests.
- Creative problem-solving skills with a passion for experimenting with metal finishes to achieve unique and customized results.
- Ability to follow project specifications closely, translating design requirements into finished pieces.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate closely with the fabrication team and meet project deadlines.
- Willingness to receive and incorporate feedback to continuously improve finishing techniques and outcomes.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in metal finishing, with experience in patina and paint application preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move materials as needed, and work in a production environment.
