Power-Tek is seeking a Licensed Mechanical Engineer with specialization in heating and cooling systems to support a Central Utility Plant (CUP) Study project. The engineer will lead the evaluation of existing utility infrastructure, identify optimization opportunities, and recommend strategies for system upgrades, sustainability improvements, and future expansion.
The role involves detailed technical assessments, energy audits, load analyses, lifecycle evaluations, and budget preparation for infrastructure enhancement.
Key Responsibilities
•Conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing central heating and cooling systems.
•Perform efficiency and cost optimization studies to reduce operational costs and energy usage.
•Complete lifecycle analyses of boilers and chillers, including carbon footprint and end-of-life recycling strategies.
•Evaluate system reliability, performance bottlenecks, and future expansion capacity.
•Develop a detailed Master Plan, Feasibility Studies, and Load Analysis for current and future utility needs.
•Provide system design recommendations, including equipment upgrades, piping, and controls.
•Prepare budget estimates for proposed upgrades and system modifications.
•Identify sustainability opportunities including renewable energy integration and energy efficiency improvements.
•Deliver detailed condition assessments of major mechanical assets.
•Compile a final report with findings, recommendations, and a roadmap for infrastructure development.
Required Qualifications
•Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical Engineering (or ability to obtain rapidly).
•Minimum 7+ years of experience in heating, cooling, and campus-wide utility systems.
•Expertise in central utility plant design, assessment, and optimization.
•Strong background in sustainability practices, energy audits, and renewable energy strategies.
•Experience with life-cycle analysis, carbon footprint evaluations, and energy load forecasting.
•Proficiency in technical reporting, budget development, and project planning.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
Desired Skills
•Familiarity with large campus or institutional utility systems.
•Experience with U.S. state-level public sector contracts (Minnesota or similar).
•Proficiency in utility modeling and energy analysis tools.
