The Opportunity
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to play a key role in the design and development of custom water and wastewater treatment equipment. Working closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders, you will create detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs, drawings, and models that support the manufacturing and assembly of our systems. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical design principles, drafting standards, and industrial equipment layout. You will be instrumental in ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with company and industry standards, while contributing to innovative solutions that serve customers in power generation, petrochemical, chemical, and heavy industrial markets.
Responsibilities
- Develop 3D piping layouts for skid mounted process equipment from P&ID drawings, while working with piping codes and client specifications.
- Generate structural skid detail drawings and pipe spool detail drawings for fabrication.
- Develop various bill of materials and lists for piping materials.
- Previous experience with SolidWorks software required.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and report to the Mechanical Design Manager
- Perform checks of 3D models and drawings developed by team members
- Demonstrates a strong personal commitment to Quality and Safety in design.
- 5–10 years of experience in the 3D/2D mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
- Proven experience with design and modelling/drafting process equipment and piping.
- Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) is a plus.
- Strong technical competence, attention to detail, and ability to produce detailed equipment models from P&IDs and client specifications.
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multi-disciplined environment.
- Ability to plan and properly organize workflow to meet varying workload demands and adapt to changing and competing priorities.
- Problem solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail are critical.
- The ability to be a positive team player in a high paced environment working under tight deadlines
- Capable of working independently, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Preferred:
- Experience with water treatment equipment design & drafting.
- Familiarity with B31.3 and/or B31.1 piping codes.
- Experience in structural steel design and drafting.
- Experience with SMAP3D in SolidWorks
- Ability to review engineering documents and specifications, identify critical or unusual requirements, and integrate them into the design.
- This role may require up to 10% travel within North America
- Physical demands may vary and could include extended periods of standing and occasional bending or lifting of objects.
