About the Role:
Works under general supervision to perform inspections, preventative maintenance work, diagnostics, and repair work on the various vehicles and equipment in KUB’s fleet. Performs work on vehicles and equipment powered by diesel, gasoline, CNG, E85, and electric batteries. This work includes, but is not limited to tires, transmissions, differentials, front and rear end drive assemblies, electrical systems, carburetors, brakes, suspension systems, and hydraulic systems. Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders. Performs routine service work as required. May be required to cut, weld, and otherwise fabricate truck beds and make body repairs using acetylene or electric arc welding equipment. Expected to complete and maintain all applicable training related to KUB's fleet. Mechanics/technicians are required to furnish their own tools.
Qualifications Physical Requirements:
Requires bending, stooping, lifting, and working in awkward and strenuous positions to repair or inspect vehicles and construction equipment. Requires above normal mental and visual alertness quite frequently. Works inside shop most of the time. Exposed to equipment and machine noise, odors of exhaust and fumes normally associated with a large shop. Works outside as required in any kind of weather to repair construction equipment or vehicles on location. Physical demands for a specific position within this classification may vary and / or exceed those demands described above.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to interpret and work from sketches or service manuals
- Two years on-the-job training in an apprentice-type setting or as a utility worker
- Strong customer service and teamwork skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial driver's license
- Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aerials, derricks, basic hydraulics, basic electrical, and cranes
- Ability to perform hydraulic system diagnostics and repair, electrical system diagnostics, read hydraulic and electrical schematics as well as use fluid and load testing tools
- Ability to operate specialized shop equipment and tools (i.e., lathes, test equipment, presses, saws, drills, welding equipment, front end alignment equipment, etc.)
- Working knowledge of equipment manufacturers and replacement parts for vehicles/equipment
- Mechanical training acquired in a vocational school environment
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification(s) in automotive or heavy truck categories
