Job Description

As a Mechanic Journeyman at the Sundance Power Plant, you will support the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of electrical energy by performing mechanical maintenance and repair of power plant equipment including assembly and disassembly of equipment, investigating and correcting plant issues by utilizing mechanical and additional/optional skills as required. Writes/reviews work scope and hazard/risk assessment of the work assignment. Performs other duties as assigned.

A written [paper and pencil] test will be administered.

A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.

Role Type

Onsite: Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.

Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).*

Eligibility:

Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen, Local Representatives, and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations. Failure to accept a job offer due to the reasonable distance requirement specific to the position will be counted toward the bid restriction as described in Article 13, Section 11

For jobs in departments (System, Reliability, Hotstick) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such, employees/crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
