Overview
The Material Inspection Project Manager will oversee the material inspection process for assigned location, projects, or customer to ensure that material leaving an MRC Global facility has met all order requirements, including customer Approved Materials List (AML) specifications, industry standard specifications and MRC Global processes to ensure the accuracy and compliance of customer orders. This role will adhere to all written procedures and all MRC Global safety standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform customer-related inspections, third-party inspections, and other quality assurance, procedures, and control tasks.
- Organizes, coordinates, and manages activities of the inspection of specified material, projects, or customers; and plans and develops schedules for inspections.
- Oversee the inspection process that includes assigning responsibilities, evaluating field practices, training others on proper inspections, performing complex inspection assignments, and planning required examinations.
- Develops and maintains site operational policies and procedures pertaining to inspection practices and company compliance.
- Makes recommendations on best practice to ensure material is handled properly.
- Inspect a wide range of piping materials, including pipe, tubing, fittings, flanges, valves, gaskets, bolts, nuts, and more, manufactured to various material specifications
- Document nonconforming materials in the MRC Global Nonconformance Database.
- Communicate with warehouse managers or distribution center managers for daily workload.
- Analyze material non-conformance effectively and present results and determine trends.
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
- Palletize products for shipping and maintain clean work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or a General Education Degree (GED)
- Typically requires five plus (5+) years of related experience.- Working knowledge of Pipes, Valves, and Fittings (PVF) products and associated industrial and oilfield products.
- Working knowledge of warehouse distribution operations including shipping, receiving, packaging, inventory controls, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications required by customers.
- Ability to identify and catalog material deficiencies.
- Possess an understanding of safety requirements and improvements.
- Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Self-starter and good communicator with the ability to work as both an effective material inspector and as a member of a team existing and upcoming projects.
- Strong understanding of material and product specifications and be able to review and interpret quality codes and to analyze potentially nonconforming material.
- Ability to learn the industry standards, quality codes, and customer specifications, including Approved Material Lists involved in MRC Global’s quality process.
- Ability to operate forklifts, order pickers, cranes, and other typical warehouse material handling equipment.
- Ability to recognize the need for process change, and a willingness to implement changes when beneficial to the department and to MRC Global.
- Ability to document and catalog material shipments in an online repository.
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
- Physical activity/exertion is routine.
- Able to lift 25-50 pounds over head.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Operate heavy machinery/tools (as required).
- PPE required.
- Able to be available for on call or after-hours/weekend service including potential overnight stays.
- Ability to work in warehouse conditions exposed to various elements of temperature (hot/cold) and noise (non-climate controlled).
