Job Description Summary:
The Master Utilities Electrician, under direction, supervises the installation, maintenance, and servicing of electrical systems associated with utilities plants and facilities. The role also supervises the electricians and field staff assigned to the area.
Essential Duties and Tasks:
Installation and Repair of Electrical Systems
•Installs and repairs high voltage cables.
•Tests cables with various testing equipment; installs, calibrates, and repairs meters relaying low to medium voltage switchgear and station battery systems.
•Maintains industrial equipment such as electrical systems related to generators, facility controls, etc.Troubleshooting and Maintenance
•Performs troubleshooting and repairs on generators, bus and feeder protection relays, and UPS systems.
•Maintain MCCs, VFDs, generator systems, and distribution panels.
•Coordinate with SCADA, maintenance, and operations teams.
•Locates cables that range from low to high voltage throughout the facilities.
•Leads and performs maintenance and repairs to electric motors and electrical switchgear.Training and Supervision
•Trains assistants, subordinate electricians, and helpers in all aspects of their job duties.
•Acts as supervisor for work groups as required.
•Leads work teams at job sites away from direct supervision.Safety and Compliance
•Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions.
•Attends and participates in regular team safety meetings.
Required Education and Experience:
•High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Seven years of related experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
•Valid Texas Master Electrician License (required).Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
•Ability to read schematic diagrams and prints of electrical systems.
•Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E.
•Knowledge of tools such as phase rotation meter, insulation resistance tester, volt ohm amp meter, and phasing stick.
•Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities.
•Effectively utilize Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
•Demonstrated understanding of Asset Management Systems.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift and move heavy objects in excess of 25-50 pounds.
•Ability to climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods of time.
Other Requirements and Factors:
•This position is security sensitive.
•This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas regulations and procedures.
•Works to cover shifts, or take emergency call, on evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
