Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Process Engineer who will be responsible for leading process optimization and developing new and existing programs, with a key focus on continuous improvements, training, and environmental health & safety.
- Establish process flow and operations to make a component, sub-assembly or assembly.
- Establish Standardized Work, Job Element Sheets, and other needed documentation to support equipment/process.
- Main contact for planning/coordinating manufacturing projects.
- Investigate and research continuous improvement and development projects. If projects are approved, lead to complete the project, through its life cycle.
- Work with cross functional team to create, update and maintain documents (plant layout drawings, PFMEA, etc).
- Provide technical assistance to the engineering team to influence product design and provide viable cost proposals and manufacturing processes to meet respective customer needs.
- Keep management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during engineering activities and actions being taken to improve the condition.
- Maintain accurate files, records, studies and reports and share the information appropriately. Furnish input on developing engineering standards and specifications.
- Perform inspections on the process and product to ensure compliance to required customer drawings and standards.
- Upload of images and inspection results to ERP system in a timely manner, acting on any concern or non-conformance to ensure an irreversible permanent corrective action.
- Perform effective benchmarking on processes and parts at affiliated plants, Suppliers, Customers, and competitors.
- Lead and assist the organization in implementation of lean operational initiatives, standardized work and continuous improvement activities (9W, 5S, 3M, Poke-yoke, JIT, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with that company policies and procedures are adhered to including ISO 9001, and Employee Handbook.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities including driving CIP’s, submits improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
- Manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
- Perform all work in a safe manner in compliance with Company specifications, including all local, provincial and federal regulations (OSHA, ESA, CSA, etc.) Immediately report unsafe conditions to Manager/Supervisor within the department.
- Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives through Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program, and sharing of knowledge, ideas, and/or best practices with co-workers.
- Establish specifications for new equipment and obtain quotes.
- Roll out of equipment and processes to manufacturing floor.
- Actively participate and comply with all division and department policies, procedures, and work instructions as they relate to your job.
- Develop and deliver employee training on new processes as required.
- Promote a strong safety culture, enforcing safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized university; or three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in automotive sector preferred.
- Must have experience creating Manufacturing Process Prints, Standard Work Instructions and Job Element Sheets.
- Lantek programming experience with laser cutting and/or welding is an asset.
- Must be proficient with SolidWorks or AutoCAD and familiar with GD&T.
- Possess mechanical aptitude to be comfortable with running and trouble-shooting process and machinery (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic systems).
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to set priorities and multitasks projects.
- Ability to apply mathematical and spatial concepts, including analyzing and solving complex problems.
- Strong understanding in root cause analysis, problem solving and continuous improvement strategies.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office. An effective self-starter who is positive and professional including proactive with a desire to suggest improvements to existing processes and systems.
- Able to work hours required to comply with deadlines and to support audits, inspections and corrective actions when they are needed.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be willing to further education to improve skillset as required.

- Requirement to stand and walk, in addition to sitting throughout shift.
- Effectively perform in a fast-paced environment, and sometimes high stress situations.
- Occasionally required to; climb or balance; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Dexterity to pick and use items is required.
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise and vibration levels.
- Required to wear PPE (safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs are required). Exposure to welding fumes and dust, as well as air born insulation, for which masks are available.
