ExcelSense Technologies designs and manufactures purpose-built, maintenance-free, self-cleaning optical sensors such as cameras, and lidars for machine vision, surveillance and process monitoring in dirty and harsh industrial environments. ExcelSense products are specifically designed for repeated exposure to contamination and temperature variations. Unlike other cameras, ExcelSense’s patented and award-winning cameras effectively self-clean against abrasive dust, mud, oil, bitumen, potash, and salt without requiring any fluid top-ups, compressed air or maintenance for many years.
As a result of our growth and aggressive product road map, we are looking to add an experienced MANUFACTURING ENGINEER to our Operations team in Richmond, BC. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role is responsible for complete industrialization of new electromechanical products—from the first sketch and prototype through validation build and volume ramp—while acting as the bridge between design, manufacturing, quality, and supply‑chain teams. Success is measured by launching on time, at target cost, and with stable yield.
- Drive Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA) reviews with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and optics teams.
- Develop and release Manufacturing Process Flow (MPF), Control Plans, PFMEAs, work instructions, and visual aids.
- Establish initial production metrics (yield targets, Cp/Cpk, CTQ parameters).
- Design jigs, fixtures, and tooling to boost efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Lead EVT/DVT/PVT build events; coordinate fixture readiness, line layout, and material availability.
- Collect and analyze data to close design and process gaps before mass production release
- Qualify and onboard new suppliers to support increased volume and quality requirements
- Conduct on-site audits, PPAP/ FAI reviews and implement APQP methodologies
- Monitor daily yield, scrap, and takt time during launch; implement containment and corrective actions.
- Lead 8D/5‑Whys investigations and maintain the NPI issue tracker.
- Transition sustaining ownership to the production engineering team with documented lessons learned and released SOPs.
- Manage NPI schedule, risk register, and readiness gates in collaboration with Program Management.
- Own BOM migration from engineering prototypes to ERP‑controlled production structures, including approved vendor lists and revision control.
- Maintain compliance to ISO 9001 and customer‑specific requirements.
- B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 6 + yearsof experience launching electromechanical products with moving parts—preferably cameras, LiDARs, robotics, or automotive sensors.
- Demonstrated track record of leading pilot to recurring manufacture builds in low‑ to medium‑volume environments (<10 k units/year) and scaling to higher volumes.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Fusion 360 preferred) and ERP/MRP/ PLM systems.
- Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and GD&T.
- Familiarity with electronics/PCBs and firmware interaction.
- Startup or high‑growth SMB background.
- ERP/MRP and QMS exposure; project‑management tool proficiency.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
- Bonus Percentage Plan
- Healthcare Including Medical, Dental and Vision
