Seeking a CNC Manufacturing Engineer with Estimating and Processing capabilities, designs, plans, and optimizes production processes while accurately forecasting the associated costs.
The "processing" aspect of the role focuses on developing and improving the systems and methods used to turn raw materials into finished products.
- Process design: Creates the most efficient sequence of operations, from machining and assembly to finishing and inspection. This involves reviewing engineering drawings, product requirements, and technical specifications.
- Continuous improvement: Optimizes existing manufacturing processes using methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and decrease costs.
- Equipment and tooling: Selects, evaluates, and specifies the machinery, fixtures, and tooling required for production. They may also be involved in designing custom tooling.
- Troubleshooting: Investigates and solves technical problems and non-conformances on the production line to ensure smooth operations.
- Documentation: Creates and maintains manufacturing process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and equipment maintenance protocols.
- Quality assurance: Works with quality control teams to ensure that products meet specified quality standards and to track and analyze product reliability.
The "estimating" portion of the role focuses on collecting and analyzing data to forecast the financial requirements of a production project.
- Cost analysis: Determines and analyzes all relevant production expenses, including materials, labor, overhead, and other operating costs.
- Data collection: Uses blueprints and technical documents to perform detailed material take-offs and to determine the time, money, and labor needed for a project.
- Cost reduction: Identifies and recommends cost-saving opportunities through the analysis of production methods and materials.
- Bidding and forecasting: Collaborates with sales and management to prepare competitive bids for clients and to create project budgets and cost forecasts.
- Record keeping: Tracks and maintains records of estimated versus actual costs to improve the accuracy of future projections.
