EPCOR’s Health, Safety, Security & Environment team is hiring a Manager, Physical Security for a full-time, permanent role in Edmonton, AB. This position is part of our Security Team and may qualify for EPCOR’s Where We Work hybrid program, based on business needs and eligibility requirements.

Manager, Physical Security Oversee and ensure a safe work environment, compliance with regulations, and protection of EPCOR’s people and assets. Manage security processes, including risk assessment, prevention, detection, response, and investigations of incidents like theft, vandalism, fraud, and more.
Lead the Security Team and Guard services while overseeing security staffing, background screening, and policy development. Stay current with best practices to continuously enhance security measures and maintain a high standard of security across EPCOR.
What you’d be responsible for
You will be reporting to the Senior Manager, Health, Safety & Environment, and the Manager, Physical Security role plays a vital part in safeguarding employees and assets and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):
Planning & Execution:
•Defining and executing annual objectives and priorities; anticipating and mitigating roadblocks; and determining the appropriate budget and resources including headcount to ensure annual targets and initiatives are met or surpassed.
•Providing advice to EPCOR’s Senior Leadership Team and Executives that help influence EPCOR’s security outlook at physical locations (plant sites and offices) to ensure security issues are prioritized and addressed in a timely fashion.
•Maintaining EPCOR’s physical security standards to ensure a safe and efficient working environment for all while responding security events/incidents reports across respective business units.
Security, Safety & Operational Excellence:
•Leading the development and dissemination of cutting-edge insights on security trends, structural security measures and systems advancements for EPCOR’s business.
•Ensuring adherence to processes, procedures and standards including the governance of security processes across all EPCOR operations.
•Overseeing the security risk assessment program for all EPCOR-owned and operated sites (including potential acquisition sites and new buildings) and ensuring timely completion per required frequency, reporting to management and developing management action plans and completing tasks assigned to Security.
•Conducting organizational assessments to identify and quantify the nature of potential treats and hazards so that the risk and vulnerabilities can be determined; the role is expected to develop the resulting security plan which includes countermeasures commensurate to the magnitude of the risk.
•Ensuring Physical Security Standards and Technical Specifications are up to date through consultation with internal and external subject experts.
•Managing the Security Awareness Program which includes identification of risks, prevention measures and contingency plans to ensure all employees and contractors have a high level of confidence in the security program and feel safe and secure at all EPCOR sites including sponsored events (internal or external).
•Ensuring compliance with applicable requirements of external certifications and programs, such as Alberta’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP).
•Recommending and implementing process changes to ensure effective, efficient service delivery – while tracking and reporting on pre-defined performance metrics.
•On-call Duty Security on a rotational basis for after-hours security and emergency related issues.
Relationships & Collaboration:
•Collaborating cross-functionally across business teams including the Security Systems’ team and consulting with 3rd party stakeholders or internal clients to resolve security issues or concerns and provide technical insights and expertise to support decision-making.
•Liaising with local, provincial, national and international law enforcement agencies to obtain preventive intelligence, report incidents, and conduct investigations.
•Liaising with and following the direction of Legal, Ethics and Privacy Office, and Human Resources, in providing investigative support and services as it relates to breaches of policies or directives.
Talent Management:
•Leading and developing capable, committed, and high-performing teams by setting appropriate performance objectives for each employee and holding them accountable for achieving results and demonstrating required behaviors.
•Managing Security Guard services across EPCOR.
What’s required to be successful
Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:
•Degree or diploma, in law enforcement, security, or related fields from a recognized educational institution.
+ An MBA or equivalent post-secondary specialization is an asset.
•American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) Certification as Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
+ Eligibility for Crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) Certification is preferred.
•Experience that includes:
+ 7+ years related and progressive enterprise security management experience (security, policing, emergency planning) in a large diverse organization including two (2) years management and team leadership experience.
+ Proven track record and demonstrable experience in the protection of assets, criminal justice system, government intelligence or investigative agencies.
+ Experience in the design, evaluation, and application of security systems/programs.
•Extensive expertise in provincial and federal legislation, regulations, and codes governing utility operations, emergency response planning, and safety standards.
•Comprehensive understanding of data storage and management, including cloud and on-premises solutions, redundancy, retention policies, user access control, personally identifiable information, and regulatory compliance.
•Well-versed in network infrastructure, physical security protocols, systems monitoring, and visitor and vendor management strategies.
•Exceptional data analysis, presentation, and problem-solving abilities using software tools (e.g., AI, PowerBI, SharePoint, Excel and overall Microsoft Office), with a keen ability to make informed decisions based on precise and timely analysis.
•Advanced knowledge of security best practices, structural protections such as barriers, lighting, locks, blast mitigation, and ballistic measures.
•Expertise in electronic security systems, including access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection.
•Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration and influence across all organizational levels.
•Proven ability to foster trust and strong stakeholder relationships.
•Proactive and adaptable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, effectively managing shifting priorities with agility and initiative.
