Position Summary::
Responsible for the coordination of the JEA's environmental integrity and regulatory compliance, managing and implementing responsibility initiatives, and coordinating all environmentally sensitive processes.
Criteria: Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, environmental engineering, or civil engineering with at least one year of relevant work experience or :bachelor’s degree in business or related field with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience. Knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and environmental regulatory policy preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
Must possess demonstrated leadership skills as well as excellent organizational and communication skills. Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office products. The ability to effectively write technical reports and present them before a group. Ability to contribute creative ideas and solutions.
Physical Demands:
The ability to safely operate a standard equipped JEA motor vehicle. The ability to use a computer keyboard effectively. The ability to orally communicate by phone and person to person. The ability to see and read printed material.
Work Environment:
Indoor and outdoor conditions.
Driving:
Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee Class "D" license.
Telephone:
Must have a telephone and furnish the number to his/her supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Manages the environmental impacts of the JEA’s operations.
- Identifies and implements ways that JEA can demonstrate environmental responsibility.
- Ensures that JEA is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules, and environmental standards.
- Works with governmental agencies, consultants, and contractors to coordinate environmental issues related to JEA.
- Responds to industry and customer trends by developing and promoting sustainability efforts while reducing operational costs.
- Interfaces with administrative group and senior management concerning environmental efforts.
- Incorporates sustainability efforts into JEA's business strategy in order to attract future community investment.
- Develops partnerships and works with community members, organizations, and other governmental agencies to establish support for JEA’s sustainability program and integrates sustainable practices.
- Develops and presents programs and activities on JEA’s recycling efforts to educate and gain support from the public.
- Identifies and facilitates potential grant opportunities to further support the growth, initiatives, and efficiencies for all divisions.
- Facilitates the integration of renewable energy credits (RECs) and technologies.
- Implements efficiency practices across all divisions that align with JEA’s sustainability goals.
- Evaluates, enhances, and develops metrics that monitor and assess progress towards achieving sustainability performance goals.
- Engages with the local community in projects that benefit the environment.
- Coordinates efforts towards green building certifications, LEED, Energy Star, etc.
- Evaluates opportunities for collaboration with relevant environmental or energy-related community programs.
- Explores opportunities for customer efficiency rebates and incentives.
- Prepares letters, technical reports, and summaries.
- Prepares budget data for area of responsibility.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
