Summary
The Manager, Labor Relations will support the Senior Director of Labor Relations in implementing USIC’s labor relations strategy. This role focuses on supporting union organizing campaigns and elections, developing and delivering training to frontline supervisors and managers, and partnering with HR, Operations, and Legal to ensure consistent, proactive employee relations practices. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail oriented, and able to translate labor relations strategies into practical tools and guidance for field leaders.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the execution of USIC’s labor relations strategy under the direction of the Senior Director.
- Monitor local labor trends and provide input on potential risks, vulnerabilities, and emerging organizing activity.
- Support union campaign and election activities, including employee communications, manager coaching and coordinate with legal/HR resources.
- Develop and facilitate training for frontline supervisors and managers on labor relations, union awareness and effective day-to-day leadership practices.
- Partner with Employee Relations to implement ongoing training and refreshers that strengthen leader confidence in handling labor-related concerns.
- Provide guidance to managers and supervisors on handling employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues consistent with company policies and labor law.
- Participate in investigations, grievance support and issue resolution, escalating as appropriate to the Senior Director.
- Maintain toolkits, resources, and communication materials to support campaign readiness and proactive engagement.
- Assist with preparation and documentation during bargaining sessions, grievance procedures and campaign events as needed.
- Contribute to the development of a rapid response capability by supporting education and preparedness of local leaders and HR partners.

- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ Years of employee or labor relations experience, with exposure to union campaigns and elections preferred- Ability to travel 50% or more of the time, often for weeks at a time
- Strong facilitation and training skills with frontline leader audiences
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex labor relations concepts simply
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HR systems
- Willingness to travel based on business needs, including during campaign, bargaining and training activity
