Description
Manages the buying, selling, trading or exchanging of crude oil. Uses futures and other financial tools for hedging of transactions.
Job Duties:
•Negotiates sales/purchases with counterparties
•Monitors crude oil marketplace to immediately identify and interpret trends or events which would impact the organization’s crude oil position.
•Develops and maintains business relationships with key external counterparties.
•Manages the physical and priced inventory position, and the pricing risk associated with the position
•Develops and manages new commercial opportunities in the Supply and Trading department
•Understands the global and regional balances and predicts future market positions to execute deals that improve the value for Valero.
•Manages sales/purchases with scheduling, accounting, credit, risk management, planning and economics, refining and other internal parties to ensure success of transactions from deal execution to delivery
•Monitors financial performance of business segment and reports performance weekly and monthly to management.
•Mentors and trains junior team members in the Supply & Trading department
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree (or higher), or foreign degree equivalent, in Chemical Engineering.
•A minimum of 10 (ten) years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry to include 5 (five) years of trading experience in the following areas:
+ Trading physical crude oil from several different regional crude markets including the North Sea, Mediterranean, West Africa, Latin America, Canada, and USA.
+ Trading Dated Brent related financial instruments, i.e., CFD’s, DFL’s and experience in risk management of Dated Brent exposure.
+ Trading cross-the-barrel oil derivatives.
+ Trading derivatives in different crude oil markets (Brent/WTI/Dubai etc.).
+ Managing paper positions, and managing risk around those positions.
+ Managing crude oil inventories, and optimizing them around refinery requirements and market structure.
+ Managing freight risk.
•Detailed knowledge of the Dated Brent benchmark and addition of the West Texas Intermediated (WTI) Midland crude oil into the Dated Brent benchmark assessment.
•Experience in general chemical and/or process engineering.
•Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.
Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
