BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P LE CORPORATE ENERGY PLANNING Department of the P INTEGRATED GRIP PLANNING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor)


JOB FUNCTION:

Lead the internal and external processes for the long range resource planning process (i.e., Power Supply Improvement Plan, Integrated Resource Planning). Direct, coordinate, evaluate, and recommend the development of company energy resource plans, policies, and strategies related to environmental and other global energy issues.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Manage company Power Supply Improvement Plan (PSIP), Integrated Resource Planning (IRP), or other long range planning activities. Responsible for the development of long range planning process for O‘ahu, Maui County, and Hawai‘ì Island grids, managing and coordinating planning work with system planning, energy services, operations, forecasting, and other areas of the company. Develop process strategies and solutions to managing meetings with external stakeholders. Lead internal and external meetings and presentations to the public. Facilitate discussion and constructive input to the planning process.

- Directs, prepares, reviews and/or delivers expert testimonies and other documents, filed with the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) or other external agencies such as the State Legislature, pertaining to advanced planning initiatives.

- Direct, coordinate, and review studies and analyses developed on various environmental and global energy issues such as greenhouse gas, biofuels and biofuels sustainability, electric transportation, and environmental compliance for the Hawaiian Electric companies.

- Direct, coordinate, and evaluate broad engineering analyses in support of the development of corporate energy resource plans, strategies, and initiatives. Provide summaries and creates presentation material to communicate the strategies and plans to senior management and the Board of Directors.

- Assist Manager, Advanced Planning on special assignments for the senior executive team on complex projects or initiatives requiring extreme discretion.

- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge Requirements

- Extensive knowledge of engineering and business principles and theories normally acquired through college level curriculum resulting in a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

- State of Hawaii professional engineer license required to allow for development and/or delivery of planning/engineering expert testimony before the PUC.

- Extensive knowledge of energy resource planning and methodologies including the integration of supply- and demand-side resources with the understanding of generation, transmission, and protection considerations and constraints.

- Extensive knowledge of utility planning principles and utility operations.

- Extensive knowledge of utility regulations and the regulatory process of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.

- Working knowledge of utility finance.

- Working knowledge of strategic planning, budgeting/forecasting process, and business process improvement.

- Highly developed written and oral communication skills. Ability to listen intently for details, digest and convey complex information, and produce clear, concise, and effective presentations, speeches, and correspondences.

- Exceptional facilitation and mediation skills and the ability to think outside of the box and synthesize concepts into a coalesced vision, business strategy or implementation plan.

- Proven ability to work in a strategic and detail level.

- Proven ability to take initiative and ownership, pull together divergent interests, and drive projects to completion.

- Solid leadership skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues. Ability to handle such issues with professionalism while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.

- Comfortable and effective in an ambiguous and demanding environment.



Experience Requirements

- Several (3-5) years of utility planning experience in the areas of generation planning, transmission planning, distribution planning or integrated resource planning.

- Experience in utility regulations and regulatory matters, including experience in developing Statement of Positions, responding to Information Request, drafting and sponsoring testimony, and serving as a witness in a regulatory hearing.

- Supervisory or management experience in a utility environment desirable.
