This position is responsible for the following functions: managing and overseeing the monthly financial reporting cycle for Berkshire Hathaway Energy and subsidiaries; managing all corporate aircraft accounting, reporting and analysis, and supporting contract negotiations; general accounting and ledger maintenance for all BHE corporate entities; facilitating the reporting of monthly results to Berkshire Hathaway and the external reporting department; sets direction, manages work and serves as key contact on cross-business accounting projects and initiatives; managing relationships with BHE subsidiary financial groups and the organization that support financial systems; providing guidance, direction and support to business units; implementation of new accounting standards; managing the BHE Corporate budget cycle and participating in the Consolidated Fall Plan budgeting cycle. Additionally, this position will ensure proper procedures and controls are in place and ensure corporate compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley act, section 404 and ISO 27001 certification.
This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
- Manages and oversees the monthly internal reporting cycle, including: preparation and review of monthly consolidated financial statement package in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles; ensures consolidation of financial results are prepared accurately and on a timely basis; prepares a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for internal use; and reviews platform monthly submissions for accuracy and completeness. [15-20%]
- Sets direction, manages work and serves as key contact on cross-business accounting projects and initiatives. Actively evaluates and refines accounting and reporting processes across Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s U.S. and international subsidiaries to drive improvement and uniformity. [10-15%]
- Work directly with senior executives on financial analysis, reporting and contract negotiation with respect to all corporate aircraft, including fractional ownerships in NetJets aircrafts. Responsible for providing accurate data for personal use of aircraft to ensure proper executive reimbursements and tax provisions are made. Provides support to aviation personnel with time and cost tracking to ensure proper accounting is maintained. [10-15%]
- Responsible for all corporate entities' financial information, intercompany transactions and accounting processes. Ensures corporate entities financial information is accurate. Corporate entities include BHE parent company, captive insurance companies and other corporate entities, including Canadian corporate entities. [10-15%]
- Reviews business unit financial information for accuracy and consistency among the BHE organization. Keeps abreast of regulatory issues, trends and positions to ensure proper reporting and compliance. Manages relationships with business unit financial personnel and provides guidance, direction and support to the business units on accounting and reporting issues. [10-15%]
- Manages, maintains and makes enhancements to financial systems and processes to facilitate preparation of the consolidated financial results. [5-10%]
- Maintains relationships with accounting and other financial support organizations to ensure coordination and understanding of financial support systems needs and requirements. [5-10%]
- Works directly with External Reporting group and financial personnel at the business units to implement new accounting standards that impact the BHE organization and ensures accuracy of financial results. [5-10%]
- Provides support to regulated business units with federal and state regulatory filings and data requests. [0-5%]
- Implements and monitors accounting processes to verify that proper procedures and controls are in place and ensures corporate compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act, section 404 and ISO 27001 certification. [0-5%]
- Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department. - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field and certified public accountant required. Advanced accounting or finance degree and/or public accounting experience preferred.
- Eight years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience for the Corporate Consolidation & Internal Financial Reporting Manager position.
- Ten years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including three years supervisory/management responsibilities for the Mgr, Corporate Consolidation & Internal Financial Reporting position
- Proficient in the use of accounting systems and software: Excel, Oracle, Access, Word, etc.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud preferred.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
- Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
