Position Summary
The Machinist will be responsible for the safe and accurate operation of conventional machine tools to produce high-quality precision parts. This role requires strong technical knowledge of machining practices, the ability to interpret engineering blueprints, and the skill to hold tight tolerances on a wide variety of parts. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of setting up and running multiple machines while maintaining a clean and efficient work environment.
- Set up and operate conventional machinery, including mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, and Blanchard grinders.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
- Manufacture precision parts to meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform hand grinding and finishing as required.
- Conduct routine maintenance on conventional machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Maintain accuracy, efficiency, and safety throughout all machining processes.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with supervisors regarding progress and potential challenges.
- Strong understanding of machining theory, shop math, and geometry.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools.
- Ability to hold and verify dimensional tolerances.
- Skilled in blueprint reading and interpretation.
- Competence with common hand tools and precision measurement equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. independently.
- Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and manual dexterity for handling small components.
- Visual and auditory acuity for inspecting parts and equipment.
- Occasional computer use for data entry and processing.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in general machining.
- Minimum of 3 years operating conventional manual machines required.
- Experience in precision part handling strongly preferred.
